We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenni Chester and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jenni, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
NextJenn TechMom’s Mobile Discovery Museum was created to bridge the gap in access to hands-on STEM learning—especially in underserved communities. We bring engaging, interactive exhibits directly to schools, libraries, and community centers, removing the barrier of transportation and cost. Our exhibits expose children to technology, healthcare innovation, and creative problem-solving through fun, accessible activities that spark curiosity and confidence. By helping kids see themselves as future engineers, scientists, and technologists, we’re not just teaching STEM—we’re shaping a more diverse, empowered next generation of innovators.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My career path has been anything but traditional—and that’s exactly what makes it special. I started in the U.S. Air Force as an avionics technician, where I learned the power of precision, discipline, and perseverance. Eventually, I transitioned into healthcare technology management as a biomedical equipment technician (BMET), a field many people don’t even know exists. As a BMET, I work behind the scenes making sure life-saving medical devices are safe and functioning—supporting patient care in ways most people never see.

What sets me apart is how I’ve woven together my technical expertise, creativity, and love for education. I’m most proud of founding NextJenn TechMom’s Mobile Discovery Museum, a STEM-focused initiative that brings hands-on tech and healthcare learning directly to kids in underserved communities. It’s my way of giving kids the spark I wish I had when I was younger.

It definitely hasn’t been easy. I’ve faced self-doubt, burnout, and the challenge of balancing motherhood, work, and entrepreneurship. But I’ve learned that purpose and passion are stronger than fear. Surrounding myself with the right people—mentors, faith-filled friends, and my amazing kids—has made all the difference.

If there’s one thing I want the world to know, it’s this: you don’t have to fit a mold to make an impact. My brand is about breaking barriers—whether that’s showing young girls they can work with tools, helping a child see themselves in science, or redefining what a career in healthcare looks like. I’m here to inspire, educate, and empower—and to make sure the next generation sees tech as something they can shape, not just use.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Best Week Ever: If my best friend came to visit, here’s how I’d show them a great time in my city…

I always say I’m still new to Houston—but then I remember… I’ve been here for 10 years! Truth is, I don’t get to explore the city as much as I’d like because I’m a bit of a workaholic and a single mom. Most of what I know and love is family-friendly—and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Day 1: Welcome & Waffles
We’d start with a Houston classic—The Breakfast Klub for chicken and waffles (because some lines are worth it). Then we’d explore Discovery Green and maybe catch something fun going on for kids and families. For dinner, I’d introduce them to one of my absolute favorite takeout spots—The Rice Box—because that spicy General Tso’s tofu is everything!

Day 2: Museum Day
The Museum District is a gem. We’d hit the Children’s Museum Houston (don’t judge—it’s fun for grownups too!) and the Museum of Natural Science, where I could geek out over the tech and exhibits. We’d wrap the day with a casual dinner and maybe a stop at The Post for rooftop views and local eats.

Day 3: Space & STEM
We’d make a day trip to NASA’s Johnson Space Center. It’s always inspiring, especially for a STEM-loving mom like me. On the way back, maybe some Gulf Coast seafood from Pappadeaux’s or a treat from Lucille’s if we’re feeling fancy.

Day 4: TechMom Time & Creative Vibes
I’d bring them along for a peek at the NextJenn TechMom Mobile Discovery Museum in action—maybe at a school or community event. After that, we’d grab boba and do something chill like crafts or karaoke. It’s a nice balance of purpose and play.

Day 5: Animals & Adventure
We’d head to the Houston Zoo—yes, even as an adult I love it. It’s one of the best in the country. Then maybe swing by the Hermann Park Train for nostalgia and sunshine. We’d grab dinner at The Rice Box again because… did I mention I love it?

Day 6: Chill & Catch Up
After a slower morning, maybe a stroll at the Houston Arboretum or Buffalo Bayou Park, followed by some shopping or lounging at Heights Mercantile. If we want to stay in, we’d do movies, snacks, and good conversation at my place—mom life style.

Day 7: Faith, Food & Farewells
Sunday would start with church—centering and giving thanks. Then we’d brunch at Lucille’s, take a final walk through The Post’s rooftop garden, and laugh about all the kid-friendly stuff I dragged them to. But hey—that’s Houston through my lens: full of family, flavor, and heart.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, I have to give all glory to God. Every opportunity, every idea, and every open door has been guided by His hand. I truly believe that the vision for NextJenn TechMom’s Mobile Discovery Museum was placed on my heart for a reason, and I’m just walking in purpose.

I also want to shout out my parents, who built me up with love, faith, and resilience. They’ve always believed in me, even when I doubted myself. To my mentors—thank you for pouring into me, challenging me, and helping me grow. And most of all, to my kids—my biggest inspiration. Everything I do is rooted in helping them and kids like them believe in their potential. Their curiosity, creativity, and joy are what keep me going.
