We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennie Slaw and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennie, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
One Piece of conventional advice that I strongly disagree with is “Find a job that you can retire from.” When you tell someone that, especially a true entrepreneur or creative, you are casting your fears onto them. You are putting them in the same box that society groups everyone in. If everyone just tried to find a job they could retire from, there wouldn’t be any jobs. Someone had to of had the courage and vision to step out of the box, and say “I am going to create jobs that people can retire from” and those creators are in the 1%.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe what sets me apart from many in my age group is that I know what my purpose is. I know what I want and make it a mission to strive towards that goal everyday. I’m not afraid to take leaps of faith and try new things. I also don’t think about or care about what negative thoughts or things people may say about me. How I got to where I am today, is basically by taking leaps of faith. No it is not always easy. Especially when you are a true entrepreneur you will have a lot of highs and a lot of lows. No matter how frustrated you get or try to walk away from it, you can’t because it’s in your blood, it’s what you are designed to do. I want the world to know that Me and my brand represents consistency, Faith in God, determination, and Hustle.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I’m Vegan so I definitely would take them to some of my favorite Vegan places. So we would definitely go to Veegos on Westheimer. Pappadeuxs would also definitely be on the list as a place to eat and drink. We would go to the Galleria to shop. If they wanted to go to a lounge for good Food and Music, then the Turkey Leg Hut, and The Address would be the first two places in the list

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my Mom Vicki Hamilton for instilling Independence, & Strength in Me. My Father James Adams who I inherited my hustle from. I would like to thank anyone who has ever given me words of encouragement or supported any of my businesses. I would also like to thank those who silently root for me unbeknownst.
