We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeremy Cuellar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeremy, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued music at an early age. At 13 I was receiving lessons on how to play the guitar and from there I gravitated towards recording and digitally creating music strictly from a computer. I fell in love with the process of making a song from A to Z. Learning the fundamentals of music theory through playing guitar, I realized the importance of every instrument when it came to making a song and it drove me to learning everything I could about producing a record. Im a big supporter of art in every aspect. I never limited myself to just music when it came to branding myself as an artist. From the music to the visuals to the raw emotion and experiences that comes from making a record or any art in general is something that fascinates me to the fullest.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I make music, visuals, record, creative direct all under the brand streetscheme. I came up with the brand name “streetscheme” at 18. If you ask the meaning behind it, I’ll tell you it will forever have an evolving meaning. Of course, I wasn’t thinking that deep when it first came to mind but i believe your first ideas that come to mind tend to be the most realist and true to yourself when it comes to branding yourself or working creatively. I believe I stand out because of the environment I come from. I was raised in a small town north of Houston called Cleveland. The perspectives Ive encountered from venturing out the city is what motivated and influenced me creatively. What humbles me through it all is the fact the I come from a town that people aren’t used to seeing a way out. I found a way for myself through music to get recognized and earn respect. At the time when I first started producing music I can genuinely say I had no peers at home to guide me cause I was the first to do what I was doing. Everything I learned was from trial and error and through past teachings through guitar. As an musician, I know a lot can relate that everyday is challenge earning a living through music but it is possible and can be very rewarding. I never chose to be a music producer to get rich. I chose this because I care and love the process of creating something from nothing. You learn the business through taking risks and learning important lessons through putting yourself in situations that will take you further. My best advice to anyone that ever asks me is that you can never have one foot in and one foot out. It’s all or nothing. I wake up everyday and strive to better and push myself more than what I did the day before.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I will always shout out my friends and family first when it comes to the support. They know my whole story from the beginning and into the future. From all the studios I’ve worked with that includes Euphoric Studios, Rap A Lot ( Takeover Studios), and my current home 71Tree studios, i’m thankful for every experience i’ve encountered through my journey with making music. A big shoutout to my father who paved this way for me musically and who continuously inspires me to be the biggest boss I can be for myself and steadily learning through watching him run a Bar/ Music Venue of His own (Ro’s Bar & Grill.) I would be nothing without these people and brands that have put me in a place to exceed even further.
