We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Carr and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Every since I was younger I always had a vision for women’s fashion. Due to the pandemic I wanted to provide women with a convenient way to shop online and have access to the latest fashions. I created my business to also provide another stream of income for more financial stability. In honor of my late mother I decided to name my boutique after her and create a foundation for generational wealth for my family. I’m also a Houston realtor and being an agent requires you to have a professional appearance. Therefore my boutique has a variety of inventory no matter what career field you’re in or for any occasion.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What makes being an entreprenuer so exciting is the freedom and ability to work your own set schedule. However it does have its challenges and sometimes for me it was discouraging. I learned you have to be your own self motivator. You have to go out and network as well as advertise your businesses on as many platforms as possible. Everyday I wake up I thank God and manifest success in my business and in my life. There will be days when your business is not making you any money and there will be days when you will be extremely busy. Being an entrepreneur takes dedication and consistency. I had to believe in my business in order for it to become lucrative. Beleiving in myself and my businesses gave me self confidence and ambition to have that mindset to be determined everyday and never give up.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a very reserved person I really do not go out much but if I had to choose one of my favorite restaurants in Houston its Chama Gaucha Brazilian Steakhouse on Westheimer. I love how juicy and tender the steaks are. The food is delicious and the customer service is phenomenal.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank my grandmother for raising me to be the woman I am today. She taught me to be a leader and to work hard for what I desire in life. She never wanted me to be a follower she always wanted me to be myself and keep God first. Without her guidance and mentorship I honestly would not know where I would be. R.I.H. Bobbie Carr
