Meet Jessica DeFeo | Your small business CMO

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica DeFeo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My life changed pretty dramatically late 2019 into 2020. I lost a very good friend of mine unexpectedly when she died at 38, and then immediately going into a pandemic set the stage for me to take a hard audit of how I was spending my time. When it became clear to me that I was letting fear dictate my decisions in a big way, I knew that it was time to make some drastic decisions. Definition of insanity, you know?
I knew I wanted freedom. Freedom of financial abundance and the ability to make as much money as I wanted; freedom to travel and go whenever and wherever I wanted; and freedom to help other women build incredible businesses. All of those things meant I needed to create a business and become an entrepreneur.
I was 40, a single parent, and had an idea for a business. I trusted myself and my abilities over the fear of the what-if’s, and I’m so glad I did. I jumped off the proverbial cliff in 2021 and never looked back.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At JMD Creative Consulting, I step in as the Chief Marketing Officer for women entrepreneurs and small businesses who are ready to scale their businesses but need expert guidance to get there. I provide high-level marketing strategy, branding expertise, and fulfillment support to help them grow with intention. Whether it’s launching a new offer, improving customer experience, or building a marketing team, I create customized plans that align with their goals and drive measurable results. My approach is professional yet approachable—I’m here to simplify the process and give my clients the confidence to focus on what they do best.
The journey to building this business wasn’t always smooth, but it shaped who I am today. With over 20 combined years with leading and developing teams and previously co-owning a branding and marketing agency, I’ve learned that success takes clarity, persistence, and a willingness to evolve. Challenges like imposter syndrome and navigating the demands of entrepreneurship taught me the value of resilience and the importance of leaning into my strengths. Now, I’m proud to be the go-to resource for women entrepreneurs who are ready to grow strategically, save time, and make a bigger impact with their businesses.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well if you’re in my 40+ year old age bracket (ha!) here’s a few things that I would do: breakfast at Breakfast Klub downtown, depending on the weather spend one of the days around downtown and Eleanor Tinsley park and ride bikes. I would definitely spend a day at Hermann park and go to Museum of Fine Arts. The Heights is always fun for brunch and some day drinking.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When I say there is a literal village behind me, I’m not exaggerating. I have an incredible network of family, friends, business colleagues and women on the internet I’ve never met that have supported me in ways that can only be described as unconditional love. There is no way that I would be able to continue to push forward without all of them in my life.
