We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Zamer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have worked in various studios and fitness clubs across Houston for ten years, and I realized that I could personalize the industry more than I was seeing. So I left the studios and started my own! I wanted to create a space where any individual could feel comfortable and confident in their health journey. The Trek House’s space has an intimate feel with our largest classes capped at five people and is a studio in which anyone can feel at home and work on maintaining their health and fitness.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My start humbly began in my own living room with just one reformer. Initially, I was curious how many people would really come to my house to do Pilates, and I was truly honored that so many followed me to my home in Meyerland. Before I knew it, we outgrew the whole room! I continued my one-man show, and subleased in a local gym. This did not last long because I did not have enough availability in my classes and needed a new plan. Through a lot of hard work and dedication I successfully started the Trek House. The pressure and intimidation of larger gyms is something our clients do not have to worry about. I have been blessed with so many clients who have been following me since the beginning, even when the studio meant the living room of my house! My clients’ diverse skills, strength and age help reflect my mission, my love of providing each individual a personalized routine with careful attention. Building a relationship with my clients and understanding what they want to achieve is the key to our brand as a smaller studio.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For the perfect Saturday (depending on the weather obviously) the best spots to hit are
Start our day at the Braeswood Farmers Market
Grab a candle from Matter of Wax
Visit the Japanese Botanical Garden
POST for lunch and drinks (plus a rooftop view!)
Omakase dinner at Sushi by Hidden (12 courses in 30 mins) or Kata Robata
Bowling at Pinstripes
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The first person that comes to mind immediately would be my mentor Chau Pham-Kid from Pilates South Texas! She has been my my mentor for over 10 years and has taught me everything I know about Pilates. Her thorough education and training has lead to where I am today!
