We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessie Pegueros and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessie, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I am a planner! And I used to be so afraid of risk. I started taking risks when my family and I literally left everything but the clothes we had back home in Chicago and decided to move to TX. We had no idea if it would work out, we had no idea how we would start all over but we took that risk. And now I can safely say it has been one of the best decisions I’ve taken. Fast forward to 2 years later and now I push for all of us to take risks. GO FOR IT! I keep telling myself and my kids the worst that will happen is you’ll get a “no”. But the important thing is you tried it. I took the risk to start my business knowing there were already established successful small businesses in the area that were similar to mine. But I kept reminding myself “my customers are out there”. I still have a full time corporate job on top of my Glam Dreams business because taking risks also means having a backup plan in case you need it. I have been fortunate enough to keep getting bookings and so blessed to have established good rapport in my area. Now all I can think of is “what’s the next risk I’m going to take??” #hustlealldayeveryday

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It has not been easy to get to where I am. Being a young mother, it took me a while to get my degree in HR but with my family’s support I didn’t give up. After that, I knew that I wanted to start a business and work for me. I have other business ideas that I eventually want to accomplish and I feel that all the harsh times I’ve gone through have prepared me for it. I have learned along the way, that no one will put in the work for you. You have to first REALLY WANT IT, and second BE WILLING TO PUT IN THE SWEAT FOR IT. I’ve had very very late nights and really hard early mornings. I’ve juggled a full time job, my small business, running a household and my kids’ schedules and it drains me some days but when I have a hard time I take a day off and remind myself that it is ok to pause and breathe but get back at it the next day!

One of the things I’ve learned is your support system is magical and so essential for my mental and emotional well being.

One of my favorite things to do after a difficult tiring day, is to do something ANYTHING with them and just laugh and enjoy our time together.

What I would like people to know about me is that I am resilient. Life has helped me build strong springs to bounce back from any situation. I rely on my family and I push myself FOR them! I want to be an inspiration to them and a role model. I have found that inspiration in other women /entrepreneurs and I want to create a brand that will inspire people to go after what they want.

The world already tells us “no” enough times, we need women that will build each other up and encourage!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Houston and surrounding areas has SO MUCH to offer and explore. One of my favorite spots for brunch is Baja Cantina in The Woodlands. They offer bottomless mimosas, their music is great plus you’re on the waterway so you can take a stroll after and enjoy the views !! A new favorite spot is Discovery Green- I love how they have different activities going on even during the week. Their “flea at night” is so much fun. You get to check out other local vendors.
For a girls night or a night out for drinks I love Tikilas- their backyard setting is so relaxing. Their music is always jamming and BONUS: they have home made arepas that are delicious!!

If I’m looking to be more in touch with my Mexican side then I’d go to Vida Mariscos for dinner. They have live music on the weekends and their seafood is so freaking good. Their mangonada drink YUM! This spot has definitely become a favorite for me and my family.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Credit goes all to my wonderful husband Juan and amazing children Andre & Jemely. They truly are my rock. I get so emotional to see them back me up on EVERYTHING. All my goals and dreams they support 100%. They have helped me and have put up with my crazy schedules. If it weren’t for them, their encouraging words and their love I wouldn’t have made it this far. Thank you for being so great with on-the-go dinners and early morning calls.
