We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeteria Edwards and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeteria, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When i was 15, growing up in Bessemer,al i always told myself oneday I’m gonna be my own Walmart or my own Amazon. Growing up no one in my family had a business or you know everyone worked. I always had the mentality that i wanted to be my own boss someday and make my own money. Even start generational wealth. I started making my own custom highwaist shorts and jeans. It did numbers. I learned how to make them watching YouTube. I always had a hustle bone in me. I can do anything literally. I’m very versatile. In highschool i sold cookies. I started surprising myself literally how self driven i was. Around 16 i actually got into makeup. It was a hassle but i knew somewhere this was a major gift i had. I grew clientele and literally grew in the makeup industry. I have done Janiameshell and MIZHANI makeup., two major social media influencers.Which literally gave me a name. I was very honored to get that opportunity. It was Gods plan. I have two major businesses at the moment, SHADES OF JAY MUA AND JWAIST (waisttrainers)
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have two great business and adding a new one very soon. As you know I’m a makeup artist, i been in the game since 2017. I actually love doing makeup. I started actually doing my own around junior year in highschool. I literally use to sit on YouTube and study how to. Everyone use to tell me my makeup was so pretty at school and ask me to do theirs a lot. So a couple months later a client i still have till this day ask me could i do her makeup for prom . I was nervous honestly cause i never actually did someone else’s makeup. Long story short it came out so beautiful. I was so proud of myself. So that grew me into building my clientele literally day by day. It was most def challenging having to learn different shades and buy major products. I’ve even took a 1:1 class too! I have really did numbers since then. I got to do janiameshell who’s from houston makeup. It felt like a dream literally. I was very honored. I know for sure I’ll be doing more celebrities makeup very soon. Makeup is a really passion that i never thought in a million years would be something i love and enjoy doing. Making other feel beautiful!
Around 2020, i wanted to start a boutique. Where i sell lashes, shorts, furslides and etc. i sold many pair and got great reviews so i kept shipments. Then something hit me. I want to sell something that’s different. While i was sitting a work, i was drawing a plan for my business. Something whisper in my ear. ‘ “”waist trainers’’. So it hit me to sell waist trainers. I came up with a creative name with my Initial “JWAIST” . My first shipment went crazy where i was selling out soon as i get them. People were really amazed at the logo and how i wore my waist trainer also. Business has been booming ever since. I have so much heat coming for Jwaist real soon. I’ll be adding creams, apparel and more.
Very soon I’ll be starting my very own clothing line. Something very unique. I have so many ideas literally i can’t wait to show them off. I’ll literally be a Amazon one day !!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love houston!! I come very often literally. Everyone is so nice and amazing. I came for the first time for my 22nd birthday. I meet some great people and networked a lot. If i bring my bestfriend to the area, we would def eat at turkey leg hut. I love seafood so much and she does also! While i was there i went to like 3 clubs. Spire, lumen lounge and the address. I will never stop going back to them clubs cause everyone was a vibe. I know for a fact she would have a ball. The drinks were bomb too. I would also take her to the galleria because it so huge and it’s way better than our mall in Birmingham,al . We love shopping. I have to come back very soon cause i want to go to so many place ive heard and saw on tiktok that’s a must!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I definitely want to shout out my grandpa who died in 2018 at 101 years. He was so strong and a hard worker. He was my father figure in my life with my uncle also. He taught me so much about credit and saving money. I really miss him a lot and know he’s so proud of all the major accomplishments I’ve done.
