Hi Jhanielle, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting Pickney Pocket was simple – I wanted to allow individuals to be able to express who they are and what they cared about in an innovative & eye-catching way. The idea of sharing what we cared about next to our heart was perfect.


Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Pickney Pocket is a black woman owned pocket t-shirt brand that was founded in Houston, Texas. Our brand is all about promoting self-expression. Our pocket tees allow individuals to express who they are and what they care about. With an expressive pocket, hand-crafted and made to order, we make the ordinary pocket t-shirt not so ordinary. Our mission is to continue to create pocket tees that focus on individuality, simplicity, and cultural & social awareness in our everyday life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would eat at: 1. Any near by local food truck 2. Cool Runnings 3.Maharaja Bhog 4. Waffle Bus 5. Turkey Leg Hut Cycle in: 1. Hermann Park 2. Memorial Park 3. Terry Hershey Park Get drinks at: 1. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Where do I begin with who deserves a little credit and recognition in my story…my entire tribe of customers, family, friends, mentors, God, and everyone who I have crossed path with during this journey. Their stories have inspired me to create a tangible way to stand who they are & what they care about.
