We had the good fortune of connecting with Jimmieka Mills and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jimmieka, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“If you don’t like the way the world is, you change it. You have an obligation to change it. You just do it one step at a time.” Marian Wright Edelman We are literally the change we wish to see in this world, we just have to believe in our own abilities. We have power far beyond what we can imagine.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
At Houston Media Exposure we are focused on making sure that we take each artist, entrepreneur and creative from ideas to execution in an effective way. I am most proud that our services are tailored to assist independent artists, creatives small business owners and entrepreneurs who may not have been afforded the access to the media coverage and deliverables that we provide. Getting to where I am today was not easy, there were many challenges along the way but just as I tell clients there is beauty in every struggle. I learned to use my challenges as leverage to get me to where I am today and I believe that my purpose is to help others to leverage their struggles and pain as a springboard to success!

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
If you’re visiting Houston a few of my favorite spots are: Food-“The French Fry House” and “Godfather’s Pizza” Hang out- Catch a live show at “The Media Block” Drinks- “Taste Bar” Visit- “Freedmen’s Town” and “The Ensemble Theatre”

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have been truly blessed to be able to build a media company outside of my career as a strategic consultant by leveraging the experiences of my own beautiful struggle. I however could not have done any of this without the support of my partner in life and business David “James Bay” Tatmon who has shown me through his own selfless sacrifice what it really means to work for something you love. Although I come from a background in journalism it was my brother Kelin Callaway of On the Block Productions who first saw promise(for which I am forever grateful) in me by making me the subject and not only opened up his platform but also his contacts which is invaluable in the media industry. Every person who has ever shared their story, invited us to cover their event, or simply liked a post– I appreciate you sincerely!
