We had the good fortune of connecting with Jiovanni Jones, J.D. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jiovanni, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding. It is the bitter potion by which the physician within you heals your sick self. Therefore, trust the physician and drink his remedy in silence and tranquility.” Khalil Gibran
This quote helped me with dealing with losses and shortcomings. I find that most people do not know how to deal with “Ls” because we don’t understand why we feel the way we do. We tend to shy away from from this feelings because they make us uncomfortable. No one likes discomfort. The truth is, is that we have to dive into discomfort so that we can grow through our “Ls”. This is the most difficult part though because we find out who we really are during that time. This quote reminds me to drink the pain and truly understand why I suffered that L.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My work is a number of things. I graduated from Law School in 2021 and I work as an associate at a small firm. I am also a fitness enthusiast and love to create content surrounded around the fitness lifestyle. I recently was on a show for HBOMax called “Finding Magic Mike” where I learned that there were more ways to create content that would allow me to be more creative so I now I make dancing, funny, positive content. My biggest challenges in life are usually self-inflicted. Growing up I have always challenged myself to be better. I grew up with two rockstar athlete parents. I was always my biggest critic, often times holding. myself to standards that my parents never put on me. My mind was always my biggest challenge. I never knew, and sometimes wonder, what my true passion is and what I need to do to get there. Growing up I wanted to be an airplane pilot, marine biologist, even a rap artist. The one thing I had to learn is that most people have a plan for themselves and sometimes our plan is not the one destined for us. You have to be able to pivot and make the best of every situation. This is my take away from life.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Behind every person is a support system that helped them there. Mine is most definitely my mother. My father was deported when I was 3 and she raised me on her own. She is incredibly strong for this because when I was a baby she was starting her law school career. I could not imagine how hard that must have been for her. She has always been supportive of everything I do and could always be someone I could come to about anything. She has always had my back and she always will. A few others that are my support system are my little brother, Jaret Valencia, who is always a shining light throughout the darkest of times. Jaret is my fathers second son and came to the United States in 2019, moved in with me in 2020 and when I say we might as well be twins, I really mean it. He supports me in ways he doesn’t even understand and I am so thankful for him.
