We had the good fortune of connecting with Joanne Ericksen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joanne, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
If you’re going through hell, keep going. From Winston Churchill. We all go through hell at times. This quote encourages me to keep going because I WILL get to the other side. Persistence pays off!
What should our readers know about your business?
I am the founder of The Ericksen Law Firm. I started out in April 2010 at my dining room table. To this day what excites me about having my own practice is that I get to practice the law the right way….with integrity and transparency. It’s not about the billables, it’s about what’s in the best interest of the client. Our tag line is “Changing people’s perception of lawyers….once case at a time.” Our brand is We are Viking Lawyers. Which means we are fierce advocates for our clients. We handle both transactional matters, like setting up companies and drafting contracts, as well as litigation related to business law, and employment issues. We help our clients navigate the stormy seas of litigation.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh wow, what a great question! There are so many great things to do in Houston….at least there were before COVID. Assuming everything was open, I would definitely take them to see a play at The Alley Theatre. Their actors are outstanding. Prior to the show, we would have a drink across the street at The Lancaster Hotel. The next day we would have a delicious lunch at Brennan’s, old southern charm at it’s best! And then an exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts, or the Menil. The next night we would have a late dinner at Cane Rosso. The Billy Ray Valentine pizza is addicting! Then we would head to The Continental Club to listen to some great live music. Other great places in town are Palazzo’s. Their meatball pizza is awesome, and you can bring your own wine. I also love The Rustic, Etoile, Artisan’s, and Top Sushi. And Steak 48 for great people-watching, steak, and outstanding service. And Molina’s for enchiladas and queso! And B&B Butcher’s for unbelievable oysters and bacon.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Dad, Stan Ericksen, the Original Viking. He always led by example. And his example was integrity, honesty, and hard work. He’s 91 years old and I am still learning from him.
