We had the good fortune of connecting with John and Bria McCrory and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi John and Bria, what inspires you?
John and I are inspired by the fact we are an interracial-interabled couple living in an area where you don’t see that many of us. We are our own inspiration and find that we can inspire and touch other people through our podcast. We love spreading positivity through our platform and hope that everyone can be inspired.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I, Bria, am a certified English teacher in Katy, Texas. I’ve obtained an Associate’s Degree in Science and a Bachelor’s of Science Degree majoring in Speech Communication, minoring in History. John received his Master’s Degree in Sport’s Administration and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. As a couple, we are working on receiving other certifications to continue our growth in our craft. We created “This is…US” podcast because we weren’t satisfied with the lack of content available online for us to listen to. We are a unique couple to most and we wanted to showcase how unique we truly are. When we come across challenges, we sit down, talk it over, and take the issue to the House of God and pray. What sets “This is… US” podcast apart from others is that we aren’t afraid to talk about the things that hurt. We also aren’t afraid to push buttons when needed. Nevertheless, we strive to keep our episodes under 35 minutes to make it an “enjoyable” drive home from work in heavy traffic. Also, you don’t see many interracial-interabled couples that have podcasts.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
John and I are BIG FOODIES, seafood and Mexican food in particular. There is a food truck that does around Houston named, ‘Cousin’s Maine Lobster’ that is to die for. There whole menu is top notch quality and you won’t be disappointed. There’s a nice place at 5505 Farm to Market 1960 Rd W, Houston, Texas 77066 in the Willowbrook area called “Don Ramon’s Mexican Restaurant “. We have NEVER had a bad experience with the service or food at this establishment. The price is reasonable and you will leave fat, full, and happy. There’s another place in the Vintage Park area called “Mia Bella Trattoria” at 110 Vintage Park Blvd Suite A, Houston, TX 77070 that serves elegant Italian food for an amazing price. When John and I moved to Houston, we spent our first date night there. Our favorite meals are the Sea Scallop Risotto and the Roasted Chicken. The last restaurant that’s definitely on our favorite spots’ list is “Rouxpour Katy” at 2643 Commercial Center Blvd Suite A300, Katy, Texas 77494. They have a great selection of Cajun food that is amazing.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We would like to shoutout the River of Life Church Houston for welcoming us into the congregation when we moved to Houston in 2019, and for trusting us enough to be new leaders in various ministries. We fell in love with the River of Life Church from the beginning and could never see ourselves leaving. The senior leadership have planted a seed in our hearts and are incredibly supportive. Our senior pastor has been a huge supporter of our podcast, This is…US, and we interviewed him on an episode that’s available for you to check out via Spotify, Apple Podcast, Google Podcast, and all the other podcast platforms.
