We had the good fortune of connecting with John Shipley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi John, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
I have a couple of habits that have helped me succeed with my visions and goals for both business and personal life. My number one most important habit is to be proactive and seek to understand my goals in the most detail possible. Sometimes they can be complex ideas that are inspired by external experiences. I have made it a habit to always have my journal with me and a really good pen. Anytime I have ideas for the business or goals that need to be reached I write them down in my journal so they are always easy to find and can always be referenced.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle by staying organized, clean, and eating healthy. These things affect your attitude and ability to organize and think clearly. Every morning I get up and try to get excited about the day and start with confidence and ready to attack the days work. I review my goals and create a list of what needs to be done that day and cross off those items as they are completed. This lets me see and feel what I have accomplished that day and helps with time management.

Time management is another major important habit to create. I try not to spend too much time on tasks that distract me from the goals and tasks that need to be accomplished that day. I try to be as intentional with my time as possible.

What should our readers know about your business?
Shipley Automotive is a small Automotive shop that I started in 2020. We focus on quality specialized repairs and diagnostics for BMW, MINI Cooper, Rolls Royce brands. We also are one of the few independent shops that has the capability to work on Electric Vehicles such as BMW and Tesla. We are going to be the future of independent automotive repair in the Fulshear, Katy, Richmond, Rosenberg area. We focus on quality and customer experience. We focus on integrity in all we do.

I am most proud of how far we have gotten and expanded since we opened. Overcoming the daily grind and sticking with all of the daily challenges. The responsibilities that I have to my customers is my top priority, which means making a lot of sacrifices to make sure everyone is taken care of before myself.

I am very excited for the future of Shipley Automotive. We have a lot to offer our community and am excited to see the business expand to a larger operation in the near future. The automotive and transportation industry is rapidly changing every day, and we intend to be a leader in the industry, and to bring a new experience of enhancing fine European vehicle ownership.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I wanted to show my friends or clients a good time in the Houston area, I would take them to Hidden omakase for sushi. It is a chefs table with a predetermined menu. It allows you to relax in a comfortable environment and taste, feel, and experience new ways of eating sushi with their personal touch of combining great food and their own touch of art from traditional to modern pieces. I would also consider B&B butchers and restaurant or Papa Bros. Steakhouse for a nice steak dinner that will definitely leave you ending the night with a smile. I would also recommend Vino and Vinyl located in sugar land. They have a few good wine options and great food, of course they always have a diverse range of genres of music playing on their modern vinyl turn tables.

I would highly recommend taking a day trip to Fredericksburg to check out the Augusta winery. They have an amazing view in the early afternoon sunset in their garden that overlooks their vineyards with small bites that pair well for an early evening of relaxation and fun, followed by a dinner at Otto’s German bistro. They serve a fantastic refreshing cold cucumber soup and an amazing coffee and spiced rub antelope with butternut mash and a red wine demi-glace.

A fun place to check out if you are into motorsports would be MSR Houston. The track days there are a lot of fun and a safe environment where you can let loose and drive your sports vehicle the way it was meant to enjoy.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would dedicate this shoutout to the amazing supportive family I have. They always support me even when I struggle. They always have my back and I always have theirs.

I would also dedicate some of my success to the people that are in my Central Fort Bend Leadership class of 2023. Even though we are in different roles and industries it allowed me to see a diverse perceptive and learn new concepts and ideas.
