We had the good fortune of connecting with Johna Filis-Mercado and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Johna, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I would that the most important success factors behind our brand are integrity, a customer-centered approach and impeccable quality.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our Smart Home installations give you the freedom to control and monitor your entire home from one single app. We provide home automation design, products and services that are unparalleled. What sets us apart is our ability to connect with customers on both on a personal (human) level and professional level. Clients often tell me that our timely communication also sets us apart and is something that is highly valued and appreciated. Our business started out as a side-hustle as we were both still working in other roles on a full-time basis. When the Oil & Gas crisis of 2016 hit, we were both laid off and decided to make our dream of owning a smart home automation business a reality. As any business owner knows, there are some growing pains in the beginning, specifically when dealing with how to navigate the tax process, licensing, etc. Meeting with other business owners and really doing our homework helped up to overcome those obstacles. We would like the world to know that we are passionate about helping people improve their lifestyle through technology. We want to be known for our positive customer experience. We want to be known for being helpful and compassionate to our fellow Houstonians. Most of all, we want to be known for being fair and honest.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many spots in Houston to check out and our culinary scene is off the charts! I love Memorial Park, The Museum District, Montrose, Rice U and of course, Downtown. A few of my all-time faves are Hugo’s in Montrose, Jonathan’s the Rub in Memorial and for a fun night out, a concert at the Toyota Center followed by b drinks on the balcony of La Carafe in Downtown. If you have children in tow, Space Center Houston, The Houston Zoo and the Downtown Aquarium are also great options. My favorite event of the year though is the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. I have been going to it since I was old enough to remember and it never gets old.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First of all, our customers have been our biggest support base. A few times over the last 3 years when we have felt a bit defeated or overly-stressed, a wonderful review will pop up online about the outstanding product we have delivered and how wonderful we were to work with. All of the mentions we get online, particularly on the Facebook Page page, Memorial Info Trading (MIT) are reminders of what we stand for – integrity, honest work, a customer-centric focus and excellent quality.
