We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonae Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jonae, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
For me, personally, giving up is not an option. I may switch my approached, I may have to come up with a new plan but giving up? No! Not an option! My dreams are far too big to give up on. I would encourage anyone who is considering giving up to ask themselves two questions. 1. Am I living in my purpose? and 2. Am I passionate about what I am doing? If the answer is, “Yes” to both questions then that should help steer you in the right direction. Return to the drawing board but don’t give up.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The one thing that I am most proud of when it comes to my brand, Duckie Cosmetics, is the fact that I did this on my own! Im proud of the fact that I was able to pinpoint what I was truly passionate about and turn into a business. What sets me apart from others is not only the fact that I have a vision but that I am self-aware and customer service minded. Even though, my business is newer, it definitely was not easy to get to the point of me actually, officially launching Duckie Cosmetics. It took a lot of prayer, meditation, affirmations and really being honest with myself as far as needing to get out of my own head in order to put an end to my own procrastination and self-sabotage. I’ve learned to talk less and put more action behind the creative things that spiral within my mind and to not fear failure, as it is just another opportunity for me to learn, reevaluate and reapproach. I would want the world to know that I am just me, that brand represents for those who are authentically them and that my story is no different from the next person who is just trying to live out their dreams!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting I would definitely take them to have brunch mimosas at Graces on Kirby, We would eat steak and vibe to the music at Juliet on Westheimer and indulge in some of the finest wines at Guard and Grace, in downtown Houston! We would definitely have to do a full blown “Selfie-shoot” at the color factory or go ziplining at Geranimo Adventure Park!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would definitely have to give recognition to my late grandfather, Dorsey Spencer, Jr.! Had it not been for his encouragement to follow my dreams and to work hard at whatever I’m passionate about, I don’t know where I would be today. He was my biggest cheerleader and for that I am forever grateful!
