We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Abraham and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I arrived on campus at the University of Texas at Austin as a freshman I noticed that there were a lot of individuals who did hair, lashes, and nails but, the market for makeup had not been fully tapped into yet. With this in mind, I began practicing on myself, friends, and family and I officially started my business in the fall of 2021. It was not an easy task but, I have seen my father successfully run multiple businesses himself throughout my life and I like to think his entrepreneurial spirit was passed on to me as well.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a professional makeup artist who specializes in natural and soft glams. What sets me apart from others is that I focus on ensuring that I enhance my clients natural beauty with makeup that is soft and seamless so they are still able recognize themselves when leaving. I am most proud of my growth as an artist from the age of 16 to now going on 23 I have gained so many new skills throughout the years which I am beyond grateful for. However, the journey has not been easy, just like anything in life there has been much trial and error but, with practice, consistency, and the grace of God I have been able to continuously overcome challenges and come out on the other side better each and every time. Along this journey I have learned to believe in myself and my talent and to never compare myself to others. I believe that being confident in who I am as a person as well as my artistry is what has allowed me to get this far. I want the world to know that my brand started from me being a curious child and how my curiosity soon followed by love for makeup and beauty industry has allowed me to be a successful entrepreneur at the age of 22. I know the sky is the limit for me and I can’t wait to see where makeup takes me years down the road.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am southern girl through and through who LOVES food so we’ll start with the restaurants first and foremost. Some of my favorite known spots are Breakfast Klub, Snooze, Pappadeaux’s/Pappasitos, Willie G’s, The Warwick, and Moxies. Some of my favorite hidden gems for food are, The Greasy Spoon, Caribbean Hot Pot, Chef Jay’s Treats and Eats, and Swamp Donkeys. For drinks and a fun evening/night out I would take my friend to Ratio, Ador, Lost and Found, or Kamp. To have some fun I would take my friend bowling at Max Bowl, mini golf at Puttshack, the Houston Zoo and or the Downtown Aquarium!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout first and foremost to my parents, without them, I wouldn’t be who I am today. Mommy, thank you for never stopping me from being everything I wanted to be, even when you didn’t understand why, you never said no to me. Dad, thank you for encouraging me always and instilling a sense of entrepreneurship in me. I’d also like to dedicate this shoutout to my older sister, Page, for always being someone I could look up to and for supporting my dreams every step of the way. Thank you to my closest friends, Lauryn, Casey, Haven, Jamie, and Curvo, who have continuously supported me and poured into me on this journey, you all keep me going. My village shows me unwavering love and constantly encourages me to keep going even when times are trying so this shoutout is dedicated to them.
