We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Singleton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The idea of starting my own professional photography business stemmed from a couple of things. The first one being a giver at heart. I love making people happy. I feel a great sense of accomplishment when I put my heart into something for someone and they truly love it. The second reason I decided to start Overcome Photography is because I deal with different levels of anxiety on any given day. It has been a part of my life for 16 years. By working on my inner self every day, I have found that photography is a way for me to overcome my anxiety. I can tune out all of the chaos when I take pictures. When I put my love for giving back to others and the practical way to overcome anxiety together I created Overcome Photography.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a professional photographer in the Richmond/Fulshear/Katy area. My specialty is with families and children. Most of my shoots are at outdoor locations. I wouldn’t have gotten to where I am today professionally without my lovely clients. Many of them have returned multiple times for more sessions and that warms my heart. My clients put their trust in me to capture the perfect image for them to admire for years to come. I am pleased to have made many families very happy. I am constantly learning new things along the way. The biggest one being go with the flow. Sometimes the weather doesn’t cooperate or a child may be upset during the photoshoot. While I would love for every session to be perfect, the reality is there can always be something to get in the way. I always try to make the photoshoot itself a memory for the family or children. I want them to laugh. I want them to talk to each other. I do whatever I can to get genuine smiles and laughs from everyone involved.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was in town the first thing we would do is get coffee. During the week we would probably try out many coffee shops like Humble Grounds, Summer Moon, Dutch Bros, or find a new one with a cute sitting area. We would probably go shopping and walk around LaCenterra. For more fun, we could check out Puttshack in Houston or Home Run Dugout. Lunch and dinner I would definitely take my friend to Pablos and Fat Boys Pizza. We can’t forget Kirbys Icehouse. I love playing corn hole and the drinks are great. The vibe is very chill and perfect for hanging out.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband has been my biggest cheerleader throughout my business journey. He is the person who really pushed me to take my talent and officially launch my business. He is the provider of our home and has financially given everything he can to help my business grow. He sits and looks at every photo from every single session I have taken just so I can show him the before and after edits. He never fails to make me feel like I am the best.
My kids have also been champs throughout this business journey. They are usually my models when I am trying out a new lens or scenery. They also come with me sometimes to my photoshoots if I don’t have childcare and always let me do my work without interruption.
