We had the good fortune of connecting with Jose Dimas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jose, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I feel like risk is a huge factor in one’s success when it comes to starting your own business or brand. You have to be able to get out of your comfort zone in order to be able to achieve results in what you are trying to do. You can’t expect your business to get started on its own or for it to grow without you putting in any work. I took a risk when I decided to try out the business I started, I invested all the money I had to my name which at the time was about $600 into 2 small machines to be able to start making vinyl t-shirts, without knowing if I was able to make a living out of this or even get the money I invested back. I started promoting myself to family and friends and started getting small orders here and there, I was able to make the money back and slowly start growing in the small business. It became a constant thing and was selling vinyl printed tees and decals. After about a year I was able to get a few more machines from saving up, and now we were able to offer more products and a bit better quality. Started networking and working a bit with marketing to get more customers and orders to the point of being blessed to get the first shop and having employees working part time with me. All the machines we were using at this point have been upgraded to all fully commercial and industrial. It has been 5 years in the making going on for 6 in 2022 being able to offer a wide variety of products such as T-shirts, Hoodies, Coffee Mugs, Phone cases, Signs, Channel Letters, LEDs, Window Graphics, Stickers, Labels, Promotional products and more!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Jphoto Designs was started 5 years ago, small business intended as a side hustle to bring in a bit of money while still taking classes, it moved on to slowly progressing in growth getting more and more orders being able to upgrade the machines I was using to all industrial machinery. Being able to grow to having two warehouses with full time employees providing custom printing services and more nationwide. It was not easy to get where we are, there were a lot of late nights and early mornings where we would be working, sometimes 18-20 hour days of full work trying to get everyone’s orders out. One thing I can say though is if you have a vision even if its small of you wanting to make a few extra hundred dollars a month, you can scale it to be a 6 figure business. Always keep pushing and working on your dreams, network with people, always go out and promote yourself to different people, someone will be looking for your services. Do not let anybody talk you out of it or crush your dreams, you have to be able to put in the work, surround yourself with good people, always keep on learning, and remember that quality goes over quantity.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Would love to thank my family and close friends for always being there for me and cheering me on when things weren’t looking the best
