Meet Joseph Marinick: Painter/ illustration/ sculpture/actor/musician/human

We had the good fortune of connecting with Joseph Marinick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joseph, why did you pursue a creative career?
I decided to pursue this journey, within the arts, because I believe it was an escape and a way I could showcase my thoughts (conscious or subconsciously.) later in my mid 20’s I realized art in general can have a physical affect on an individual. I took a liking to that. Also, the Philosophy of the Japanese- Ikigai.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Born in Boston and moved to Houston in 2001. Took 4 years of speech thearapy. I drew my entire life. Doodles. Graffiti charge changed my mind on how I would conduct my artistic endeavors. Self taught artist. Failed art school in high-school. I get critiqued on my versatility, however, I like that about myself. It has taken years to realize I have different series, which includes variousemotions and ideas of work. Each color has its day! It’s quite an interesting thought. I love Ralph steadman, Kazamir Malevich, Salvador Dali, William Blake….etc. My brand is ‘ BECAUSE.’ I chose this name because, just because. Haha. It will answer any and all questions. Sometimes “ It is what it is.”
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ghost hunting- Franklin bridge or old library (downtown,) memorial park ( for hours) – get lost in the forest, my secret spot near Allen parkway…shhh. EADO. HAM Cake Life Co.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give the biggest thanks to god. Then to my mother aka my ‘’Ma.’ She has always. Been there and talk time so much. My brother and sister for their forgiveness as much as their love. My family. Diano. From Akido to Philosophy. Philip. Tommy/shorty and their family. My brother smoke RIP. Zomb gang. Rags. The block.
