We had the good fortune of connecting with Joshua Grace and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joshua, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business is simple. Everyone wants to be independent from companies and be their own boss. And that’s exactly where it stemmed from.
The unfortunate thing about working for someone else you always feel like you are working to continue to make them wealthy, or to put them in a better financial gain – why not do it for yourself ?
Not that I’m saying to go out, and quit your regular 9-5 job, but to budget time aside to focus on your own plan.
Even if your business initially doesn’t take off… because it might not you should always continue to “water” and “nurture” it. Do it because its for you ! It’s yours ! Work that job , so it can provide for YOUR future business/plans and then maybe one day a transition can happen for you to leave the job… and focus full time towards your own business. But that never would have happened if you didn’t “plant the seed”.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Imagine waking up to the beauty of nature and the unconditional love from animals every day. Now imagine that with a Texas sunrise as the backdrop, the sound of bees buzzing around and pollinating the fruit trees. Roosters usher in the morning with the notorious crowing they do.
The whiff of freshly bloomed roses brushing by your face as you walk out to feed the chickens.
A amazing, peaceful and humbling way to start your day off with the beauty of nature and love from animals and livestock.

Being a homesteader/hobby farmer/farmer however you want to label it. Is it exactly how it sounds and looks. If you have a love for nature and animals it will never be a day of work.. it will become a lifestyle.

One thing that I could mention that would maybe set us apart from others is that we are Black owned and operated. Not many people in our family have land of this capacity & to be honest its just not as trending in black communities as others. So for that we do take pride and we are very proud of that.

Upon working on the property full time I own and operate a U-haul rental equipment company. So moving trucks, trailers, auto transports & tow Dolly’s I have available for rent.
Partnering with U-haul has been a great experience so far, the learning curves have been very minimal.
However with farming and homesteading its simply trial & error. You will always be learning, and should embrace the learning challenges that come with it.

If you find yourself in the area, I invite you to reach out and schedule a visit. See what farm fresh products we have at the moment and feed some chickens !
Experience the beautiful outdoors and country living for a while.
Also if you need help with renting or booking a U-Haul,
feel free to give me a call so I can point you in the right direction.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of my favorite spots for a bite to eat and a drink consist of : 600 Degrees – Pizza & wings located in Georgetown
Pfluttos Tavern – located in Pflugerville
54th Street Bar & Grille located in Pflugerville

Other than that I am usually on the property,
tending to bees,
feeding goats ,
watering flowers and gardening.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Amaru Farms would not be possible without the help and financial backing of my amazing mother and grandmother. Without them Amaru Farms would not exist.
With that being said. I’d like to thank the customers, neighbors & everyone who give us the opportunity to serve them.
The people who give us the opportunity give us a chance. Having customers and referral business helps you stay afloat and just reassures you that what you are doing does help/benefit someone. It’s always nice to have a customer… but then to see that customer come back to you over time is even better. Thank you !
