We had the good fortune of connecting with Jourdan Jade and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jourdan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Prior to starting my own companies, I was a corporate “slave” for over a decade. I was on a hamster wheel working over 60hrs/week, primarily in high-pressure sales. In addition, in the SF Bay Area where I live, the traffic was increasing significantly every year. I found myself eventually commuting 2 hours to work each way, working more than 8 hours, getting home frazzled and stressed and having limited time to actually enjoy my life & contribute to my personal relationships. Although the security of a corporate salary was paying my bills, I started to realize I was not feeling personally fulfilled in my work. I wanted more time and freedom to create my own schedule and not limit time with family. Eventually the desire for more freedom took over and I decided to take the risk to start my own company.

What should our readers know about your business?
After quitting my last corporate job as a pharmaceutical sales rep & hospital dietitian, I launched my hemp CBD brand, Jade Healing Co. I’ve always been passionate about improving the quality of life for others. I left Pharma after working for a company that I eventually deemed did not share my same passion, and was in business only for profits more so than helping people. Of course, for-profit businesses must make profit, but not if the product or service is being mis-marketed in a way that potentially harms others, in my opinion. Concurrently, I was going to CBD/THC conferences and expos and public speaking in order to educate listeners so they could make the best individualized health decisions. After years of gaining respect and recognition in the cannabis industry, I created a cannabis marketing agency, to create more value for the other brands I had been building relationships with.

Aside from health and wellness, I also have a passion for music. I love creating beats and use songwriting as music therapy. After encouragement from others, I decided to make my music passion projects into a business as well and created a music publishing company and began releasing music publicly. I’m now on tour, opening for many of my favorite artists.

Balancing 3 companies can be overwhelming at times, but working on my own schedule and creating equity for myself is worth it to me. I did have to give up much of my social life, but now majority of my social life is working with my friends/colleagues or people I choose to work with.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in the Northern California SF Bay Area where we are fortunate to have many attractions and different terrains. For me, after being in the city and hood for many years, I prefer being in nature spots or any oceanside. I consider nature to be healing and prefer being surrounded by as much as possible. So, I would go to the beach, mountains, snow, lake, coast, beach, etc. I would also go to see live music as I’m always learning from observing other performers, or to my home-based studio to create.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother & grandmother have always been independent women, and inspired and empowered me to go for what I want. My mom instilled a strong work ethic in me at a young age, encouraging me to always be working and determined to succeed. Without this work ethic and determination mindset, I would likely not have the confidence to step away from a good job to create my own businesses.
