We had the good fortune of connecting with Joy Hanna and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joy, why did you pursue a creative career?
I started writing songs at an early age and fell in love with the creative process of expressing universal truths and emotions that others can relate to through song.
Please tell us more about your career. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way.
I wouldn’t be making music today if it were not for the first fans who believed in me and supported my creative endeavors- my parents. Getting noticed in the very populated world of digital music and streaming is difficult but I’m learning to keep going and keep creating because I love it and believe in the songs I write! Having others champion your work is essential but ultimately you are going to be your biggest champion.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would eat a lot! El Tiempo, BLT and cookies and milk at Tiny Boxwood’s would definitely be on the list.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband is my biggest source of support and encouragement. He listens to new songs I write, cheers me on in my goals, comes to my shows, etc. Also, I recently joined the Nashville Songwriters Association (NSAI) and have greatly benefited from the community, feedback and support they offer songwriters and artists.
