We had the good fortune of connecting with Joy Henderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joy, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m from the Northside of Houston, Tx. I come from a separated home. My mom had to do what was best for her and my dad had to do what was best for him. The things I went through coming up as a child is what made me today as a woman. The life my daddy chose to live never made him forget about me. My dad was my best friend and the one who installed hustling(business) in me. He always told me to “work for yourself, own your own brand and make them respect it”! I lost my dad June 1, 2021 due to covid. I wanted to give up but I know he wouldn’t let me. Bring a single parent of 2 boys made me want more out of life. I’ve been in business for 13 years and since my dad passed I have expanded my business. My business is my passion! I can honestly say I love what I created! Kreative Handz Hair LLC, GiveMeLash by Joy, Luxury Brow Bar and Puss Heaven Yoni Bar belongs to me! That really feels good to say since a lot of ppl when I was a kid said “ I wouldn’t be nothing in life”. Well baby when you believe in God, have a mean Hustle with kids and you know you father won’t let you give up….. this what you get! A woman who build her brand with just starting out with $600.00! I’m not Lucky! I’m Blessed!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started out with just being a hairstylist for about 6 years. Then I was like ok even though I open Kreative Handz Hair and I’m doing good and my clientele is good. I’m still not comfortable. I’m not where I want to be. I love to make my clients hair very healthy and I had clients with hair and scalp issues. I was like boom I got it. I want to start my own healthy hair line. It took me two years to come up with a hair growth product which now is called Kreative Handz Hair Growth Serum. The serum was doing so good snd my clients was pleased with the results they was like you should sale it. I was so happy with myself I did just that. I made it, bottled it, packaged it and sold it. Then later I added the Shampoo, Hair Mask snd Edge Control. I created Kreative Handz Hair Growth System. After that I was like ok do what’s next. My mind just kept going lol. I opened up GiveMeLash by Joy and did good with that. In the process of me adding Luxury Brow bar my daddy passed. I was hurt so bad and wanted to give it all up. I lost my best friend! I cried and cried. One day I got up snd looked at my kids face snd looked at my dad picture and was like “I got this, I have to keep pushing”. I finished adding Luxury Brow Bar and Puss Heaven Yoni Bar. I’m so in love with my brand and businesses because they have a story behind them. I feel like my businesses and my character speaks for itself when a client comes in my suites and know they are in good hands!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friend was visiting Houston for the first time I would take her to Grace and Taste Bar for some amazing food. She likes to party but be classy at the same time do we will go to Phil and Dereks because that’s a grown and sexy spot with nice music. We will explore downtown at night so she can see how our city lights up while riding bikes because we have to stay fit. We will then go to Conroe for a boat ride with wine and snacks and catch up on each other’s life. One of those nights I will treat her to Vic and Anthony’s Steak house. On her last day I will give her a full pampering service ant of course my place of business. She will get hair, eyebrows, lashes and yoni steam before she lives! Oh snd I will send her home with my while product line for herself! Our time is always great!!!

I would like to shoutout Mr. Brown. The owner of House of Brown on Jensen Dr. Thank you so much for allowing me to work at your salon the two years and giving me the game on starting my business. You taught me all I need to know about opening my business. Daddy, may you rest in Heaven… thank you for installing the hustle in me and believing in me. To my kids: Jeremiah and Jayce, thank you babies for giving me that push each and every morning to get up snd go get it for us. I have always told you I will always be here to make sure we are good snd we all we got! Last but not least God, thank you for giving me this craft and never leaving me when I wanted to give up!
