Meet Joycelyn Urech | Estate Planning Attorney

We had the good fortune of connecting with Joycelyn Urech and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joycelyn, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
My business helps the community by making the process of transfer of wealth to and preserving family legacies efficient and straightforward.

What should our readers know about your business?
Estate Planning is an interesting area of law and each family is different so we tailor our estate plans to meet the needs of each family taking into consideration the family dynamics and what will work for them so the family legacy and wealth is properly distributed according to the wishes of the client. I am excited for each client to receive a plan that will support their desires and prevent family from having unnecessary stress after a loved one has died.
My journey was not straightforward. I tried practicing only real estate law and discovered there were so many people with issues with property that needed to be transferred from a deceased loved. So I added estate planning to my practice. I worked like most who practice in this area drafting documents that would never be reviewed until they were needed. Recently, I joined a group of attorneys who practice differently, forming relationships with each client to make sure that the estate plans stay up to date. Everyone experiences change in their lives and often they fail to update their estate plans when major life changes occur. We stay in touch with our clients and periodically reach out to them to review the plan to make sure it still works for them.
I want the world to know that we are different and want to work with our clients to get the right plan, not just any plan; we do not prepare cookie cutter plans and will work until the client is satisfied with the plan we have designed for them. The client participates in the process and all questions are answered.
The most valuable lesson that I have learned is marketing is fun and will make or break you. You can not succeed waiting for the phone to ring off your website. You have to get out a meet people and tell them about what you have to offer and partner with others in your community.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my best friend to Pearl and Vine for a great meal. I would take them to Pop Stroke for some golf fun and fun food. I would take them to a movie at Cinemark and enjoy a good film. I like to cook so I would make some really good food at our my house and relax and visit. If the Astros were playing I would take them to an Astros game and Daikin Park. If baseball season wasn’t in I would take them to a University of Houston. Relaxation is essential so I would take my friend to Life Time Fitness for a massage and a steam. I would also treat them to a bike ride in George Bush Park for exercise.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
