We had the good fortune of connecting with Julia “Jewlz” Noriega and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julia “Jewlz”, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Jewlz N’ Glow was established September 2020 right when things were slowly starting to open up from quarantine. I knew the timing was a bit risky, but I was also fixed on this mindset of “what better time to open a business than in the middle of a pandemic!” I thankfully had the opportunity to grow my clientele while in school. I promoted constantly online, which helped me tremendously. Along with client referrals, I had around two to three clients a day. Anything worth achieving in this life is usually risky, but whenever you succeed it makes it that much more fulfilling.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Jewlz N’ Glow’s purpose is to normalize the world of skincare for those who were/are uninformed about the importance of taking care of their skin. Our skin is the largest organ in our body and according to The American Institute of Stress 120,000 people die every year from stress, so why do so many people neglect their skin and wellbeing? I can confidently say all my clients would agree my facials are unlike anything they’ve ever experienced. My services are the perfect balance of effective skincare treatments and pure relaxation. You’ll leave the treatment room feeling confident, more knowledgeable about your skins needs and feeling a million percent rejuvenated. The “Glow” in the name is the brand. Your aura glows organically whenever you live your most authentic life. While I do leave my clients physically glowing, my main objective is to assist others in discovering what makes them truly radiate from within. I’ve had my fair share of skin issues throughout my life. Being able to connect with my clients on a personal level is so beneficial! I’m happy my past struggles can help others for years to come. While there have been obstacles along the way, I can thankfully say it’s been a beautiful ride. I look forward to the continued growth of my business and to keep assisting others in achieving their “Glow Goals!”
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Houston is gigantic! A weekend wouldn’t be enough time to take in all this amazing city has to offer. It also depends on the time year too because we have all the sports teams and then the famously known rodeo! I’ll assume this is just a normal time of the year. This would be my itinerary:
Breakfast @ Harry’s restaurant • 318 Tuam St. • They have amazing breakfast! Get there early it gets crowded.
Afternoon activity @ The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston 1001 Bissonette St. • They usually have an exhibit running and it’s in the AC because Houston gets HOT!
Dinner @ Rodeo Goat (2105 Dallas St.) has the best burgers & fries it’s located in the heart of all the action so if you wanna bar hop afterwards it’s all a walking distance away.
If you drink, be safe, get an Uber!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am grateful to have God as my foundation because without having that relationship and growth in my own spirituality I would not have made it through uncertain times. I also owe a lot of my success to my amazing supportive parents, siblings and loved ones. The list could go on and on. I believe nothing is coincidence, everything has a purpose. I was fortunate enough to meet my hair stylist Alexa Covarrubias (@High.Maintenance.Hair) about five years ago. Within that time period she’s done my hair MULTIPLE times! She was the first persons I ever knew to be a “freelance” artist in the beauty industry. I wanted to be a boss woman just like her! She always encouraged me to peruse my passions. At one point Alexa rented out a booth at Revive Salon, which is now the current location. Myra Salas L.E, owner of Revive Salon, immediately took me under her wing after I graduated. She willingly offered to train me on certain facial treatments and other services. With more than 15 years of experience under her belt, she continuously gives other beginning estheticians/cosmetologists the confidence to be their own bosses! Without all these amazing individuals Jewlz N’ Glow would not be where it is today.
