We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Valdes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
While I am known for being a bit impulsive at times, this was something I had put a whole lot of thought into before taking the plunge towards becoming an entrepreneur. I have two driving forces that led me to starting my own business. One being the hope and dream of having that “work/life balance” for my kiddos, you know, that thing everyone keeps talking about. The other being the constant pull in my heart to help others just feel……GOOD. I’ve spent my entire career in the health and wellness industry and it’s been such a pleasure to have the opportunity to impact the lives of my clients. Oh, and that working mom balance thingy I had been searching for finally decided to join the party after putting in the work and laying the foundation.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am the proud owner of Avid Body Analysis helping people visualize their wellness in The Woodlands, Texas and surrounding areas. I specialize in 3D Body Composition Testing and Nutrition Coaching. Our program offers a goal driven approach to weight loss and weight management specifically designed with your unique measurements, body type, and activity level in mind. Unlike other scanning, this tool creates an opportunity to track progress, compare efforts visually, and maintain accountability. You are so much more than just a number on the scale. My favorite part of our business is helping clients understand what exactly is making up their weight such as measuring fat mass, lean mass, bone mass, and much more we don’t consider. Knowing more detailed information about your non fat weight vs lbs of actual fat mass give us the ability to help you set a realistic weight loss goal along with a true timeline, activity goal, and recommended calories for your body. Each time you visit for a scan we collect the data, analysis what your body is trying to tell you based on the changes you’re making, and consult on adjustments to your program. Our health risk analysis is included in the scan and if needed, can provide insight on what your risk level is and how the measurements could change to lower the risk of obesity related diseases. What began as your neighborhood smoothie bar and nutrition shop has now evolved into so much more. It has been over 5 years since I open my storefront smoothie shop, Blend Nutrition Co. Making smoothies for our amazing customers was such a joy and an absolute pleasure. During this time, we had the honor of winning several Best Awards from various organizations. A few years ago, I decided I wanted to help my customers on a deeper level so I created Avid Body Analysis to compliment the smoothie bar which is now the focus of my business and career. Covid sent us all into a downward spiral in 2020. This event did take a toll on my smoothie shop just like a lot of other food business and fitness companies. We had to overcome many hurdles and learn new way to keep our customers engaged. However, it opened my eyes to the real need to help people reach their optimal health and lower the risk for obesity related diseases. So that is exactly what I’m aiming to do for individuals, families, groups, and corporate companies. We broke a lot of hearts when I ultimately chose to close our storefront at the beginning of 2021 and revamp how I operate my 3D Body Composition business. Who knows, maybe a Blend Nutrition Co Smoothie Truck is in the future (wink, wink). I’m so excited to focus on the continuation and growth of Avid Body Analysis and better serve my community.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Woodlands is such a great place to visit full of great restaurants and things to do. First, mimosas! We would go to Another Broken Egg owner by Deb Minor for an amazing basket of beignets, breakfast, and a yummy mimosa. After that, we would head over to Lake Woodlands for some Swan boating on the lake. I love getting out there on the water.. It’s peaceful, the views are nice, and we could get our workout done! The next day would be shopping of course. I would take her to visit my favorite boutique in the area, Addy & Ry Boutique owned by Laura Poshard. She sells the cutest stuff! I’ll have to give my girlfriend and extra suitcase for the journey home. Then we would get our butts over to Market Street to wrap up our shopping extravaganza and finish our evening at Tommy Bahamas, home of my favorite steak salad. Now we have earn some pampering for sure so I would have us both scheduled for HydraFacials at EFC Medspa owned by Melissa Herpel. Once we are feeling all cleansed and hydrated its time for pedicures at Palace Nail Bar and yes, mimosas there too. Dinner at Grimaldies on the Woodlands Waterway. Rise and grind the next morning with a trip to Row House in Hughes Landing for a workout then adventure down the aisles of Whole Foods next door feeling all healthy. Then my office is just a few minutes away from Hughes Landing so pop over there and give her a body scan because what kind of friend would I be if I didn’t help her with some goal setting! The Pavilion is my favorite place to catch a concert so definitely try to score some tickets. Margaritavilla is now open and such a good time! Love Whiskey Cake too so that is a must and get what….more mimosas!! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Along this crazy journey of business ownership there are those people that come into your life and plant little seeds. Those seeds grow and grow, first with the trunk, followed by branches upon branches and flourishing buds. When well maintained, you end up with this beautiful tree that breathes air into your life. This is how I feel about my dear friend, Melissa Pearce, who has enriched my life not only professionally but, very much personally. Soon after starting my business she invited me to a networking event where I had the pleasure of meeting Thyra Clagg, founder of Woodlands Girls Night Out and the biggest cheerleader for female business owners. This was at the time a somewhat small networking group for local ladies. Little did I know it would be the monumental change for my business and the beginning to truly some of the best moments of my life. From WGNO, which is no small group now by the way, I have met so many amazing women, many of which are my BEST friends and greatest supporters. This group has help me grow and mold my business into what I had envisioned for myself, my family, and my clients all while doing my part to help other women do the same with their businesses. The struggles of being a small business owner are ones that you can’t just hide from and I’m so grateful for the encouragement from my family. Huge shoutout to them! This tree of mine has grown and grown but, I want to thank those the are the foundation, the trunk. Thank you for the love and the lift when I need it most to Laura Poshard, Jamie Shick, Linda Boyer, Carla Theriot, Tayna Kasprick, Melissa Herpal, Jen Ragain, Courtney Hawk, Kyla McGee, Breanne Turner, Laura Vazquez, Erika Peyton, and of course Thyra Clagg and Melissa Pearce . The list goes on and on!! I think I may be the luckiest girl in the world.
