We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Whitfield and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Justin, can you talk us a bit about why you love what you do?
I truly love what I do. I get to think of new ideas for bringing in customers. I get to plan and host parties. Wildcatter Saloon is such a unique property that I am constantly doing different things. For example: we have an adult Easter egg hunt. We give out over $2k in cash and prizes. During this pandemic, I realized seniors in high school had no Prom. So I offered to host their proms in our park, for free. Due to the 3 1/2 acres and most of it outdoors, we have the perfect set up for a post corona virus world! (We have 5 proms booked now! ) We now book national acts….Puddle of Mudd, Uncle Kracker, Everlast, 10 years, Danny Worsnop, Whiskey Myers to name a few. I love being my own boss. When I sold my last bar, I didn’t plan on staying in the business. Then I found Wildcatter and my passion was reignited.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In the first 3 years of owning Wildcatter Saloon, we have survived the worst flood in the US caused by Hurricane Harvey, a tornado and now this pandemic! I’ve learned how to rebuild my bar and home, so that’s been a great thing. What I am most proud of is the live music acts we bring in. We are the largest live music venue in Katy and one of the biggest in Houston. We can hold up to 2500 people. (Talk about a stress test! ) On any given day, we could be contacted by an agent representing bands that I’ve listened to for years. That gets me excited.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
Other than Wildcatter Saloon, I would visit other live music venues and enjoy a concert. I would go biking by brays bayou. Definitely take them to Surfside beach. Way better than Galveston.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife. 100% I wouldn’t be here without her. Dana is my rock. “Behind every good man is a great woman.”…
