Meet Jynesis Monique: Makeup Artist & Skin Connoisseur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jynesis Monique and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jynesis, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I created Kalon’s Beauty Bar, my consistent thought was how can I do something I love, empower both men and women, and get paid for it. On my 19th birthday, I only imagined what it my company could branch out to. Although, my original pursuit was makeup and lashes, being in this business has allowed me to explore many different avenues. For example, my new vegan skincare line SKIN by Jynesis Monique can allow women to feel beautiful even after they take the makeup off -and that was what was important to me.Moreover, I have also tried to keep an open mind throughout this journey, continuously self-reflect, and work diligently to improve productivity and performance. Every day I wake up thinking “how can I push my business to new heights?”

What should our readers know about your business?
Kalon’s Beauty Bar and SKIN by JynesisMonique are two very synonymous companies. My goal is to make people feel beautiful. To feel confident and secure. I wanted people to come get their makeup done, then use a bomb skincare routine and love the way they look either way. Sending out samples of my Skincare has been the most exciting part of my journey. I worked on this line for two years, so to hear people say they love it, they can’t wait for full-size products gave me the motivation to continue! (And yes- full size products are currently available). These last two years have been so hard. I can’t even say starting a business is easy. This is hard work. You learn by trial and error and you run into challenges everyday. However, your drive and determination can determine everything. I want people to know that throughout everything I have persevered!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The first place I would take them is Brunch at Seaside. I would encourage them to get the salmon and grits and a strawberry lemonade mimosa carafe-because honestly what good is just one mimosa. Next, I would take them to get Creme Brûlée at Rao’s Bakery. (Support Small Businesses) because after a good meal you’re going to need desert. I would then have to take them to poison_i_boutique to get some clothes to go out in. They are open till 8 so it’s the perfect time to get some new drip before the club. Because we are going out, we have to make sure have food on our stomach. Now me, I love seafood so I would take them the cupcake kitchen- now I know what you’re thinking. Well you’re wrong! This place has the best crab cakes in Houston. I’m not kidding. You’ll be surprised how many people skip the cupcakes and go straight to food. But I mean why skip the cupcakes- it’s named that for a reason! Now to have fun, we have to go to Lost & Found. We could enjoy Hookah and the best mixed drinks. Like seriously 10/10.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout Prairie View A&M University and my mother. With out these two entities I could have never pushed myself to where I am today. Prairie View taught me how to be my own person. How to use your talent and skills to make money and boost your morale on campus. If it wasn’t for PV, it would have taken me years to discover who I was and what I wanted to be in this life. My mom of course, I have to thank- for not only giving me life but also supporting my business financially, emotionally, and everything else in between. My mother has always invested into all of my businesses and has believed in me every step of the way. That has allowed me to never give up and continue striving for my dreams.
