We had the good fortune of connecting with Kailynn Klepfer, LCSW-S, CCTP and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kailynn, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
My practice focuses on supporting new moms during the postpartum period, a time that can be joyful but also incredibly overwhelming, and beyond. Many mothers struggle in silence because there is a strong cultural message that they should be enjoying every moment of motherhood. They often compare themselves to “supermoms” on Instagram or TikTok and begin to feel like they are not doing enough. When their experience includes anxiety, exhaustion, or self-doubt, many moms feel shame and begin to believe they’re failing as a mother and that they’re the only one struggling. I aim to normalize these experiences and create a space where mothers can be honest about how they’re feeling without fear of judgment.
Providing quality, accessible mental health care for new mothers is especially important because there are simply not enough specialized services available, particularly here in Texas. Many moms face long waitlists, limited insurance options, or providers who don’t fully understand the emotional and identity shifts that come with becoming a parent.
Beyond individual therapy, I also offer community support through groups for millennial moms, where women can connect with others who truly understand what they’re going through. Millennial moms are the largest and fastest-growing population of moms in the US, and these women need support. Stronger moms build stronger families and healthier communities, so it is incredibly important and valuable to support the moms.

What should our readers know about your business?
Owning my own practice has been a dream of mine since I first decided to become a therapist. I always envisioned creating a space that felt welcoming, genuine, and supportive, and when I needed to niche down, I knew I wanted to support moms and healthcare professionals- the ones who spend so much of their time caring for others that their own needs get pushed aside.
The path to building my business was not easy, and it was something I worked toward for years before taking the leap. Ultimately, I was no longer able to work with my previous employer, and that became the push I needed to start my business. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that you don’t have to have everything perfectly figured out before you begin. Starting a business involves a lot of trial and error, and growth comes from being willing to adjust and pivot along the way. Through that process, I’ve learned to trust myself more and to see challenges as opportunities to learn rather than signs of failure.
What sets my practice apart is the authenticity and connection I bring to my work. I am incredibly proud of the community I serve and I genuinely enjoy the work I do every day. My clients inspire me constantly, and I consider it a privilege to walk alongside them during meaningful and often vulnerable parts of their lives.
Those conversations with families in my practice also inspired me to write my first childen’s book, Wild or Tame, I Love You the Same, focused on big feelings and unconditional love amidst imperfection. Expanding my work beyond the therapy room to support parents and children in new ways has been one of the most meaningful parts of my journey.
I am deeply proud of the business I’ve built. More than anything, I want people to know that my brand is rooted in compassion, honesty, and real-life experiences. This practice reflects who I am, both as a therapist and as a mom, and my goal is always to create a place where people feel understood and supported, even when challenged to grow and try hard things.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting Houston (which I love!) I’d plan a mix of family-friendly fun and a night out together. Since we both have kids, a lot of our favorite activities revolve around places the whole family can enjoy. Houston has so many great options! We love spending time at the Houston Zoo, visiting a museum, or going to a game to experience the energy of the Houston Rockets, Houston Texans, or Houston Astros. My daughter is also obsessed with space right now, so we would need to go to the NASA Space Center as well. These are always fun options and feel very “Houston.”
We also love keeping things simple, walking around a farmers market, enjoying a good brunch or dinner, and spending time outside when the weather cooperates and it’s not 100 degrees. Houston’s breweries are another favorite because many of them are family-friendly and have such a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
And of course, we’d have to plan at least one adults-only night so we could go dancing and let loose a little. The perfect Houston visit is a mix of family time, good food, sunshine, and a little bit of fun just for the grown-ups.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There have been several people who have shaped my path, but one moment in particular stands out. Early on, I was working toward a career in therapy and exploring graduate programs in clinical psychology, but the process was challenging and I wasn’t sure what direction to take next. While working as a bank teller at the time, I happened to have a conversation with a customer who was a psychologist. When he asked how my applications were going, I shared some of my uncertainty, and he introduced me to the field of social work and the possibility of becoming a therapist as an LCSW, a path I hadn’t previously considered. That conversation changed everything. I went on to pursue my MSW, and it ultimately led me to the career I love today.
I also have to give a heartfelt shoutout to my husband. Starting a private practice takes courage and a level of financial stability that makes the risk possible. His belief in me and his support gave me the confidence to pursue this dream and build a business that reflects my values. I’m incredibly grateful to have a partner who encouraged me to take that leap.
