Meet Kaitlin Vaughn | Music Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaitlin Vaughn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kaitlin, what inspires you?
I’m inspired by the power of music. It is a staple of both our most menial and monumental moments of life. Whether it be a gym pump-up track, or the song to have the first dance to at a wedding, music carries us throughout life.
When I truly discovered my purpose, I learned that I am on earth to help those around me. Nothing makes me happier than aiding those in need. Thus, if I can create music that helps someone in any capacity, I feel fulfilled. Whether it be your first dance, or what you listen to on your way to work, if my creation was a part of your day, then that brings me true happiness.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My musical journey started when I was 3. I started writing songs but never put much thought into it because I’m my mind, I was going to the WNBA (that I originally thought stood for “Winners” National Basketball Association).
However, I started to take music more seriously when my mental health took a nasty turn when I was 13. I listened to a lot of punk and grunge rock at the time, so I started writing *rather depressing* rock songs to cope. Eventually I started writing rap, and then R&B. And once I decided to record my first song at 18, I hated how hard it was, but I was hooked.
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that music is going to beat your ass. It’s hard, and extremely demanding. But by God is it rewarding when you hear something you’ve created and you actually like it. That’s what I do it for. I make music I’d like to hear, and I share it with the world in case they like it too.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Houston is the greatest city in the world. It’s one of those places that if someone told me they’ve spent their entire life here, I wouldn’t judge.
Now as far as a fun weekend goes, it depends how much you’re willing to spend. But ideally, I’d like to have a trashy night out at the midtown bars on Saturday night (Electric Feel Good is the best bar). And then follow it up with a trip to the Houston Museum of Natural Science on Sunday morning, and a dinner at Bungalow that night. And if the timing is right, I’d catch the Open Format night at Paradise Palace that Friday night.
Also, Waves on Wednesday at Avant Garden never disappoints. It’s always a chill vibe with great DJs.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My support system. I’ve been blessed to have family and friends who have been integral to my growth. When I look over the past year of my life, it surprises me to see who came through for me, and who left me high and dry. I learned that life isn’t a numbers game, and one great person outweighs ten piss-poor ones.
