Meet Kamille Byrd | Recruitment Manager and CEO of Mindset Learners

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kamille Byrd and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kamille, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came up with the idea of my business based on my personal hobbies. With leadership development coaching, the summer going into my senior year of high school, I enrolled in the Toast Masters program. There I was able to learn the art of public speaking. With those skills, I was able to truly soar within my undergrad major: Communication Studies.
As far as graphic design, I’ve always been craftsy. I used to use the paint application on the computer (LOL) and converted over to Canva during college making sorority event flyers, birthday invitations and graduation announcements. For years I always made flyers for free until 2020.
When I joined the Re Up Movement in Houston, TX, the CEO (s/o to Walter) told me that I needed to start getting paid for my services. I perfected my craft even more during quarantine, he helped me come up with my name and the rest was history!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is titled: Mindset Learners. Mindset referring to your behaviors and attitudes. Learners referring to acquiring new understandings, knowledge, behaviors, skills, values, attitudes, and preferences. I came up with the name based off of the services I offer – with leadership and development coaching, individuals and organizations can always learn transferable skills that can be used within everyday life. With graphic design, I as a business woman, am always learning from my clients. What sets me apart from others is my turn around and flexibility. I’m always available to coach, mentor, and teach and my flyer turn around time is always less than 96 hours. I am most proud of how far I’ve come. When I look at old flyer designs I made in 2016, I cringe. I recently bought Adobe Illustrator and have been working through that application since. I was able to grow my business by taking the leap of faith of just putting myself out there. Exposure is truly everything. Being a business woman is far from easy – there are days that other stressors of life take over and you feel as if you have 0 revenue. I overcome the troubling times by remembering why I started in the first place. My bucket is filled when I see others happy and my clients are satisfied with my work. The lessons I’ve learned along the way are that every encounter is a learning experience. I want the world to know that I’m just getting started! You can achieve whatever you put your mind to.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Off tops, my favorite place to club in the city is The Address. Whether it’s a weekday or brunch – they always have good vibes and good music.
If I’m looking for a more chill, hookah vibe the I’d hit up The Locker Room, CRU Lounge, or Cafe Mawal – Westheimer.
If I want to grab a bite to eat I’d probably go to Lost & Found, Tacos Dona Lena, Torchys Tacos, The Rouxpour, The Turkey Leg Hut, The Breakfast Klub, or State Fare Kitchen & Bar.
For dessert, I always go to SMOOSH Cookies . I’m from California, so an ice cream sandwhich is a must.
Late night snack? Hands down YOYO’s Hot Dog in Rice Village.
If you’re looking for a good place to work out I’d highly suggest a bike ride in Hermann Park or to visit CycleBar – Houston Heights.
For an experience, I’d suggest POST Houston or the Houston Interactive Aquarium & Animal Preserve – that was nice!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout some members of the Re Up Movement. Walter Barreda and Courtney Brown. These two gave me the tools to really jumpstart my business back in 2020. I’d also like to thank my little brother Yancey (IG: @ynbthebrand) for always giving me motivation when my creativity is lacking. Lastly, I’d like to shoutout my favorite clients: @pampermespa and @superjaythedj for always requested graphic designs and believing in me from day one. It truly takes a village!
