We had the good fortune of connecting with Kamran Ali and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kamran, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Being 6’3″, I always had difficulty finding dress clothes that fit well. Particularly dress shirts and suits. It was a struggle to find suits and shirts that were long enough on the sleeves but at the same time fit my shoulders, chest and stomach area without it being too big or too small. I always found myself in between a small and a very large size. While I was always passionate about clothing and dressing well, this led me to a journey of learning about how clothing was made and ultimately taking a leap to start making and designing my own clothing. The passion turned into a hobby and I began to make clothing for family and friends for years before I decided I was ready to turn in this into a business.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business, Kamran Bespoke, creates custom clothing specializing in menswear. We create suits, shirts, shoes, accessories and ethnic wear. More recently, we started making clothing for women as well.

We specialize in making all garments by hand by using the finest available cloth available to us. We primarily use fabrics from Italian mills. What sets us apart from others is that we take a different approach to creating garments – particularly with suits. I’ve created a unique method of sizing my clients through a multi-step process. If a client decides to place an order for a garment with us, we create a Skeleton Fit. The Skeleton Fit is basically a rough draft of the garment created based on the exact measurements and design of the clients choosing using very cost affordable cloth that can be later discarded. The purpose of creating a skeleton fit is to help understand the clients needs when it comes to fitting and design. During the Skeleton Fit, we had a discussion over each measurement of the garment to see how it can be improved or adjusted and finally allows me to make adjustments for posture so that garment sits well.

I am most proud of the satisfaction I receive when I receive positive feedback from a client.

Creating the Skeleton fit really eliminated surprises and errors created in final garments. By creating this extra step, I have seen very satisfied customers.

I have learned that custom clothing is not for everyone. Most of my clients are working professionals or grooms who are getting married.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I don’t necessarily have a favorite part in the city but always love trying new restaurants and cuisines. When friends come into town, we tend to spend more time at home and catch up. We may try to catch sporting games occasionally .

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Big shoutout to my wife, Zainab Khuwaja who has always supported my dreams and ambitions to always pursue my interests in building my own custom clothing business. Zainab always encourages me to continue growing and to become better. She’s been positive and a huge attribute in building my business.
