We had the good fortune of connecting with Kandice Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kandice, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have 4 children and I truly needed the freedom to have days off with their schedules. Being part of a busy spa made that’s impossible. So, one day I prayed about it and decided to take the leap of faith and I took off! I felt unstoppable for sure.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Originally I got into skin care because I love science and after learning was esthiology was all about I couldn’t wait to get my hands into the trade.
It was fascinating to learn how different skin actually is AND isn’t. Discovering makeup and how to work with under tones really made me have an obsession with makeup for a bit. I wanted to be able to work on anyone without any hesitation under pressure so I practiced like an athlete.
I am so glad I pushed myself from the start because it really set the tone for my success. There were definitely hard bumps in the road but consistency really is key.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First we would go to Perks Beanery on 249. This is my favorite coffee drive thru, I visit about 5 days a week and it’s out of my way so that says alot.
I love to visit Downtown Tomball during the weekend. They have an amazing Farmers Market and such cute shops.
If you’re a Macaroon lover, you have to go to the Railway Market in the Heights! Go anyways, you will love it because there’s something for everyone.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Immediately I think of 3 people here.
A mom and daughter I met that came into my place of employment when I was just 17. They told me about their school, Aveda Institute, and how they were taking the Esthetician course together and loved it. It intrigued me so I scheduled a tour and enrolled soon after. I didn’t get their names but they changed my life with that conversation.
The third person was a dear client of mine. Her name is Sylvia. She introduced me to permanent makeup and actually persuaded me to learn it over 4 months time. This woman motivated me and encouraged me to take an even bigger leap of faith than ever before to better my life as a single mother.
I will forever be grateful to these 3 women.
