We had the good fortune of connecting with Karen Cerezo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karen, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want my kids to remember me as a go-getter. I want them to know that I didn’t just settle and I went after what I wanted. I want them to see that I took a leap of faith to pursue my passion. I want them to know that they are never stuck in a job they don’t like or a situation that no longer aligns with their goals and values. I want them to feel confident chasing their dreams.
I want people in my community to remember me as a kind person. One that inspired and led. A strong woman that created a space for other women to feel confident and educated as they navigated middle age with grace and dignity.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think what I’m most proud of is how much the midlife information community has grown. I feel when I started talking about aging and the effects of Menopause on women’s health, there weren’t a lot of conversations being had out in the open. Over the last few years I’ve really seen a boom in the opening of the dialogue for women over 40. I’m so proud to be part of that progression.
I think one of the roles I enjoyed a lot was being part of Athleta as a contributor to the AthletaWell online site. It was so much fun and so inspiring to be part of such an amazing community of women, both as a mentor and as a community member.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The one person that deserves to be recognized, is my Ride or Die, my husband. He stood by me and encouraged me to leave my career after 17 years in public education and take that leap of faith. He supports every crazy idea and allows me the time and energy to pursue my passion as a women’s health coach.
The other individual that has been a huge driving force of me leaving the teaching profession to start my own wellness business is my oldest daughter, Hailie Barber. Through her own journey as an Influencer, she taught me the ability to define my individual role as a teacher, mentor, and influencer, creating a safe space for women in midlife to ask questions and get the help they seek.
