We had the good fortune of connecting with Kate Jade and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kate, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
In the past, I would have deemed myself a workaholic. My energy was devoted to my career, accomplishments, and climbing the metaphoric ladder of society. Every day I was exhausted, energetically drained, and growing closer and closer to burnout. Of course, I justified the constant grinding as a necessity to not just survive but thrive in the workplace and financially.

As I leaned into my spiritual beliefs and devotion to esoteric wisdom, I quickly found myself desperate for greater balance in my life. I needed time for rest, creativity, meditation, crafting, self-care, ritual, hobbies, enjoying nature, exercise, community, drinking water, healthy eating, doing nothing, and everything in between.

As soon as I let myself have this healthier balance throughout every area of my life, I could feel my body, mind, and spirit start to heal. I carry this balance with me in my work as an author, creative, metaphysical shop owner, and esoteric educator. Though there is still much work being achieved (because I do love working), it is carefully balanced based on my needs and priorities on any given day.

After experiencing that level of balance, there was no going back. It was a necessary change in my life and I will forever advocate for people to take the appropriate amount of time needed for their physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Every day through Astarte’s Temple I get to create magick. Some days it is through writing and publishing books on esoteric wisdom, like my recent book, The Mother of the Gods. Other days it is through hand-crafting crystal jewelry and metaphysical tools to help people heal and grow spiritually. And on other days, I get to create some of the most meaningful magick to me by teaching about mysticism through online courses, blog articles, and virtual classrooms.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Having lived just North of Houston for many years, my absolute FAVORITE place is actually in Conroe. It’s the cutest little restaurant that overlooks Lake Conroe called Fajita Jack’s Tex-Mex Grill & Cantina. Sitting on their patio by the water with a large sangria swirl margarita in hand and some delicious chips and salsa is peak happiness for me. The views are gorgeous, the vibes are fantastic, and who doesn’t love good food and drinks?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to the goddesses and gods of old. You know, the ones that most people believe are mere characters in fairy tales, mythology, and folklore. To me, though, and many others in pagan communities, they are very real. Just as any other religion or spiritual path may venerate their version of a greater spirit or god, within paganism I recognize and honor the ancient divine beings that have been all but forgotten by modern society. In fact, that directly plays into the naming of my metaphysical shop, publishing house, and wisdom school I founded called Astarte’s Temple.

Astarte is the ancient Queen of Heaven, Mother of the Gods, and embodiment of Cosmic Wisdom itself. She is known by many names and titles throughout history and cultures. In fact, you may have heard of similar goddesses to her or that were potentially derived from her by some accounts, such as Isis of Egypt, Aphrodite of Greece, and Venus of Rome. Her iconography is found throughout the world in ancient temples, shrines, and artwork.

My hope for Astarte’s Temple is to venerate Astarte and recover the older traditions of spirituality, wisdom, and magick. Through the temple, I aim to share my love of wisdom with other spiritual practitioners in order to help them thrive on their paths as well. None of it would be possible without Astarte, though. So, again, the most humble, respectful, and honoring of shoutouts truly goes to her and the goddesses and gods of old.
