We had the good fortune of connecting with Katherine Rivas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katherine, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
First of all because of my Mom, she introduced me to music and I just fell I love with it. But if I have to choose again I will choose the same Career, because I feel that art is what allows us to express ourselves directly and connect both directly or indirectly with other people, it enriches the soul of those who practice it and those who appreciate it at the same time. it’s a win win
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think that we are all authentic, so there will always be a special difference in each one. In my case, I have an extensive career as a flute player and singer at an international level that has given me great experience on large stages as the first flute of the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela under the baton of Maestro Gustavo Dudamel, an orchestra with which I have had a Latin Grammy nomination and another nomination with the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra as well, and I have perform in national and international flute competitions obtaining prizes in several of them. I am proud and excited to have had the opportunity to represent two countries with musical art, sharing my passion for this beautiful and fruitful career.
I think that nothing is easy in this life, but nevertheless with dedication, faith, passion, perseverance and determination everything is possible. Starting my music career at the age of 4 I was a study buff, I could spend 8 hours studying music. For me, music was a game, it was fun, it was learning, it was challenges, which helped me in my development throughout my life. That mixture of ingredients that I mentioned earlier, along with the support of my parents, was what pushed me to cross all barriers to achieve what I am today.
One of the lessons I have learned along the way is that you must build your own goals and dreams, generating a plan and believing in yourself, supporting yourself and surrounding yourself with people who can inspire you, teach you, guide you, in short, who give you things positive and productive.
I am Katherine Rivas or better known as @katyflute on my social networks. My passion is the music and I am very pleased to share this passion with those who listen to me or follow me, whether in orchestra, as a soloist, in recitals, in special events, with my voice and/or with my flute.
Also I would like to say that music is a fundamental part of life, it is such a noble career that it has no age or duration in its learning. That helps in every way, in the intellectual, psychomotor and socio-emotional development of children, thus creating new learning, exploring and enhancing skills and abilities according to their evolutionary development, within an environment of significant experience through games. It stimulates creativity, logical-mathematical reasoning, free expression, identification of musical notation, problem solving and endless other benefits, and that is why our enterprise, the Krea Academy, an institution that was born with the mission of bringing music to children from Preschool age onwards, seeking to provide that positive impact on the development of their lives.
And the other enterprise that I have with my husband is called “Krea Productions”, because we know how essential music is in every event, the life it gives creating unique and unforgettable moments. We are a company dedicated to bringing music to private events, bringing professional quality musicians whose passion is to please their spectators, we adapt to the tastes and requirements of those celebrated.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First of all I want to thank God, because through Him everything is possible, also my mother who from an early age took me by the hand to know and explore the musical world. To Maestro Jose Antonio Abreu who with all the passion and support dedicated himself in making sure that my musical career as well as that of thousands of children within Musical “El Sistema” Venezuela had great opportunities to reach dream stages in many parts of the world together with the Simón Bolivar Youth and Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela conducted by Maestro Gustavo Dudamel. All my flute teachers during my more than 25 years of musical career in performing and teaching music. And also to my husband who, together with him, started these two musical entrepreneurship and we continue working with all the love and all the desire to give our best so that it continues growing and thus be able to benefit more people.
