We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Beckham and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katie, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have always been drawn to interior design and making things around me more beautiful. Painting started out as a fun hobby and a way to decorate my own home. I then began to enjoy the challenge of improving my artistic skills. It was a lot of trial and error and huge ugly mistakes at first but I kept at it and later was asked by an interior design firm to start commissioning works for their clients. It took off from there!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When I started painting I never expected that it would turn into a small business or that people would be interested in having my art in their homes. It is always a huge honor when people commission art or buy a piece of mine. I still pinch myself that people even want to buy my art. I started painting because I wanted art for my own home but didn’t want to spend thousands of dollars. I am proud of the fact that while my art is great quality, it is also affordable. People from all budgets come to me for art and I feel that I am able to find a way to meet each clients budget. Original art should be for everyone and I love that a piece of me goes to each clients home through my art.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom is an artist and inspired me to chase my dreams and turn my hobby into a small business!
