We had the good fortune of connecting with KaTina Poe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi KaTina, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Honestly, I was growing tired of the system. I was tired of pouring into a system that did not give back to me. I was also wanting to grow in my practice an I felt that I had reached a ceiling and the growth that I want to achieve is not in the system anyway. I cannot continue to build another’s business, I must build my own. IT seemed like the only way forward.
What should our readers know about your business?
HER Total Zen Midwifery and Wellness is a Women’s Health and Prenatal practice that specializes in the healing, elevating, and radiating the minds, bodies and souls of women. It integrates the routine western model of health care with some eastern influenced practices to create a wholistic journey for clients. The focus is to guide women to health and wellness and also their truest selves. This healthy living will set the foundation for the next segment of the individual journey. Whether its continuing a wholistic lifestyle or preparing for pregnancy, continuing a current pregnancy or recovering from pregnancy, or even entering a post fertile stage, HER Total Zen Midwifery and Wellness is a sacred haven for the mind, body, and soul to heal, elevate, and radiate total zen. I’m excited to have more future offerings such as yoga, guided crystal meditation, yoni steam, and alignment coaching. Maybe even retreats one day. This is in leu of routine women’s healthcare and prenatal care. My ultimate goal is create a birth and wellness network that normalizes this lifestyle. To get where I am today, I had to live the business and be shameless about my mission and my goals. I had to be honest to myself about my truest desires and place myself in environments and around people that aligned with my vision. I have coaches in more corner to push me as well. The practice is still in infancy but I have big dreams ahead. Its a continuous process to get self out of the way. To stay committed yet flexible to opportunities. One of my biggest disappointments was losing some key partners and their intended investments in the beginning. This was not to be a solo mission and it still isn’t as it evolves. I’ve learned to be still and yet hustle in the background because what is meant to be will be. The world should know that the narrative for Women’s Health and Prenatal Care is changing. I want to be apart of that change and make effective strides to elevate the revolution.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I absolutely love Houston. My friends and I would definitely brunch at Lucilles on the weekend. Breakfast is served at The breakfast Klub in midtown. We’d visit Herman Park and Memorial Park for a picnic. We’d definitely have to go shopping at the Galleria Mall and small boutiques like Enstyle or JLuxe boutique. We’d even have to visit local spas Essential Body Bar or Embodied Houston for pampering. Lunch spots would be definitely be a food truck vibe at Houston Sauce Co or Korny Vibes. City Center is also definitely a must to have dinner at Brio or Seasons 52. We’d also head over to Eddie V’s in Midtown for Dinner and Drinks. Kulture downtown would also be on the list for dinner that week. We’d hang out at Alley Kat or Moxies. Drinks at 13 Celsius or Davis St. Late night eats at Velvet Taco. We’d definitely tour the historic 3rd ward. Shop local small businesses at Black Market Houston. we’d head over to Discovery Green for local events especially any pop up marketplaces. We’d even take a dance class at inner Me Studios and practice yoga at Crystal Yoga. We might be in luck to catch a show at Miller Outdoor Theater.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
