Meet Katlyn Dezarn | Wedding Planner and Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Katlyn Dezarn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katlyn, what do you attribute your success to?
It has 1000% been networking, but not just in the traditional sense of handing out business cards or showing up in a room to be seen. Making real, genuine connection with the incredible people in this industry has been huge for the success behind my brand.
In the wedding world, your reputation is everything, not just for attracting your dream clients, but for building trust with vendors who you’ll be working shoulder to shoulder with on someone’s most important day. Around here, word of mouth travels fast, and being someone people want to work with matters.
I’ve found that when you lead with genuine care and intention, people remember that. The vendors I’ve worked with, the families I’ve supported, the couples I’ve cried with on wedding days, those moments build a kind of ripple effect. Your reputation grows not because you’re chasing recognition or you’re the best at what you do, but because you’re consistently showing up with authenticity.
I truly believe our success has come from being relationship-first in every part of the business. We care deeply about the people we serve and the people we serve with, and that care shows in every detail. Whether it’s vendors recommending us, or a bride’s mom telling her friend about us after the wedding, those personal connections are the most powerful form of growth we could ever ask for.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets Dezarn Designs apart is our ability to truly see people. We’re not just here to plan pretty weddings, we’re here to hold space for one of the most important seasons of someone’s life and make sure they actually enjoy it. Our clients aren’t just checklists and color palettes. They are real people with deep values, big emotions, and meaningful stories. That’s what we strive to learn about our clients so we can incorporate it into their wedding day and make it so it’s not just a big party but a celebration of everything leading up to our clients becoming a married couple.
I am most proud of the way this business has grown into something that feels so aligned with who I am at my core. It’s built on connection, on intention, and on truly listening. I get so excited every time a new couple trusts us because I know we are going to create something that reflects them in the most honest and beautiful way.
Getting to where I am today was absolutely not easy. I started this business because I was passionate and thought it would be fun to do on the weekends. But it has slowly evolved into one of the things I have worked hardest for in my life and find that this is where I thrive. I had to learn a lot through trial and error. There were times I questioned if I was cut out for this or if I was doing enough. But every time I showed up, even when it was messy or uncertain, the pieces started to come together.
The biggest lesson I have learned is that you do not have to do it all alone. Asking for help, building community, and letting people into your story is not weakness, it is the exact thing that gives your business roots and let’s it become bigger than just me.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that we care deeply. We cry during speeches. We celebrate your wins like they’re our own. We obsess over details because we know how much they matter to you. This isn’t just a job, it’s a calling. And we are so honored to walk alongside our couples as they step into this new chapter of life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live up in the Spring/Tomball area and truly love it, so we’d kick things off with brunch at Ambriza because their margaritas are AMAZING and the atmosphere is always a whole vibe. From there, we’d head over to FoxFire to make our own custom candles, which is such a fun and personal activity, plus, who doesn’t love taking a little souvenir home that smells amazing?
After that, we’d probably have a slow afternoon back at my house. I’m big on balancing busy days with some time to relax and connect, so we’d hang out in the pool with brisket queso from HEB (truly a must) and just catch up.
Throughout the week, we’d hit up all my favorite local spots. Think horse races at Sam Houston Race Park for a unique, exciting night out, music bingo or trivia night at Pacific Yard House in Conroe, and some serious nostalgia and fun at Cidercade downtown for arcade games and drinks.
One night, we’d dress up and go to Flora for dinner, it’s one of the prettiest places and the perfect mix of aesthetic and delicious. We’d also make our way to the Nifty 50’s car show on saturday night just to enjoy something different and local. For something interactive and delicious, Chiba Hot Pot is always a blast, especially with a big group.
And okay, I fully admit this one’s for me but we are absolutely going to the Houston Zoo. I love the zoo so much and think it’s one of the most underrated ways to spend a day. Then we’d maybe grab a drink at Saint Arnold Brewery before wrapping the with a trip to Meow Wolf, which is just such a wild, immersive experience.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without a doubt, I have to give the biggest shoutout to my business sisters in AWP Houston. As someone who came into this industry as a newer face, it could have been really easy to fall into the trap of competition and comparison but instead, these women reminded me that community over competition is not just a cute saying, it’s a powerful way to grow both personally and professionally.
They’ve cheered me on through big wins and hard days. They’ve offered advice, shared resources, and shown up in ways that truly made me feel seen and supported. Navigating this industry especially as you’re building a brand that’s so deeply personal can feel lonely at times, but having a group of women who just get it has made all the difference.
So much of the success of Dezarn Designs comes from being surrounded by people who value collaboration and kindness. I’m forever grateful for the way they’ve had my back and helped me stand taller in this space. They are proof that community is not only possible in this industry, it’s necessary.
