We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayden Coleman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kayden, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I knew I wanted to make a difference and at first I wasn’t sure how. I remember laying in bed one night, unable to sleep and I came up with the idea of doing a workshop. I made a really crude flyer for it before I even came up with any of the content. I didn’t expect anyone to want to attend, if I’m being honest. But it blew up! I realized how much of a need there is for real education on trans masculine fertility and birth and decided that I would be the one to do it because I didn’t want any other trans people to go through I went through trying to navigate the medical system.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a transgender advocate first and foremost. I am also an educator and I use education to fuel my advocacy. I am a keynote speaker and use my own stories and experiences to educate my audiences. I am a consultant – in which I assist in helping individuals and organizations who are striving for inclusivity and equity. I am also an author – with a children’s book in the works.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a friend visiting Houston, I would take them to all of my favorite food spots, Mikki’s Soul Food, Snooze AM Eatery, Lucille’s and Social House Lounge. I would also take them to the Houston Interactive Aquarium & Animal Reserve.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my two daughters, Azaelia & Jurnee who have changed my life in all the best ways possible. As well as all of my supporters who have stuck by me through this journey. The love and support I have received throughout this time has been what has kept me going. So thank you.
