We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla Logan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kayla, how do you think about risk?
I truly believe that playing it safe is just as risky as taking chances to achieve your goal. When I made the decision to become a business owner, I knew that the fate of my success laid in my hands. Taking that risk ignited a drive within me that I didn’t know I possessed. There were quite a few obstacles along the way but I don’t regret any decisions I’ve made. In fact, I credit a large portion of my business’s success to those pivotal learning experiences.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Kay Rosh provides makeup services for all occasions with a specialty in bridal makeup. I believe every client is unique, therefore, they each deserve a look designed specifically for them. Many of the women I service are hard-working and juggle multiple tasks on a daily basis so it’s important to me that they’re in a relaxing environment during their appointment. Often they’ll vibe out to the music or doze off for a few seconds. I ask most of my clients how did they discover me and the usual response is Instagram. It’s always so humbling to know that my work caught their attention on such a huge platform. The use of social media along with referrals has had a huge impact on the growth of my business. As an entrepreneur, providing the service is only a small part of the job. I also have to answer phone calls, create and post social media content, manage the schedule, etc. It can be overwhelming at times but I’ve learned that self care plays a huge role in my productivity. As a beauty service provider, it’s rewarding to see the positive impact that my services have on some of my client’s self-esteem. It’s a blessing to have a career where I can help women look and feel good. Last year I decided it was time to expand my services so I enrolled in beauty school. I’ve since then obtained a license in cosmetology and, in addition to makeup, will begin providing hair services in January 2021.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is terrible but my best friend would probably be more knowledgeable about things to do than I am. I spend most of my time working and hanging out at home with my husband and son. However, a quick Google search would help me out. I know for sure I’d take her to some great food spots such as Houston Sauce Co., The Breakfast Klub, and State Fare just to name a few. Wednesday we’d go to ErmaRose Winery for ladies night and enjoy good wine, food and music. I think a bike tour through the city with LetsDoThisHouston would be a fun and active way to end her trip. I’m sure we’d need to get a little cardio in after a calorie-filled week!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to reflect back to years before I was a makeup artist when I would receive compliments on my makeup from family, friends and even complete strangers. Those compliments were the spark that ignited my career path. My husband and son are so supportive and constantly motivate me. I’d also like to recognize my amazing clients, supporters, fellow beauty service providers, event planners, photographers, and many more Houston creatives who graciously recommend my services. Thank you so much for your support of Kay Rosh!
