We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla Moultrie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kayla, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
While taking risks can be extremely scary, it’s needed to grow. There’s a saying to “Do Things Scared” because if you remain comfortable and complacent, you hinder yourself from growth. Taking risks have played a huge part in my life and career. Stepping out on faith has given me the confidence I always needed but never knew I had at one point in time.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am currently self employed. It was definitely a risk to take during the pandemic but I am glad I did. I got my LLC for my business back in May, 2020. Kultivate Koaching, LLC. I offer services like consultations and strategy sessions to target audience Black Social Work students and First Year Graduates. As a black woman with 8 years of experience and her Master’s in Social Work one thing I noticed was the lack of diversity in the classrooms. Low-income and minority populations are the predominant communities served. I felt like if I could help Black Social Workers grow in the field they can build the confidence to successfully serve in those same populations, and the people in those communities grow to trust Social Workers because we look just like them. They realize we’re there to add value. It’s definitely is not easy having your own business but it’s small things like people reaching out to me to tell me how a simple post has helped them or reminded them why they chose Social Work that keeps me going.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely take them to the city. Atlanta is known for Brunch! There are several locations that serve brunch but my favorites would have to be BQE, Escobar, Fin & Feathers or Encore. I’m not big on going out but I do enjoy a lounge with chill vibes from time to time, and there definitely has to be hookah. My faves would have to be Cru Lounge, Encore, and Siva’s Tavern.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my bestfriends. They are always one of the first to know about ideas I may have, but also show up for me no matter what. Whether it’s lending a hand with resources or even taking my graduations pictures for free and just excited to be on the journey with me lol.
