We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kayla, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my non-profit organization because I felt like there were not enough resources for children and young girls. Growing up, I always wanted to be involved in programs that focused on the wellness and betterment of young women, but I never had time due to sports, school, etc. I wanted to create the change that I was interested in seeing. When I got to high school, I developed a passion for helping people and I knew I wanted to turn that into my career which is why I decided to major in Psychology at Delaware State University and got involved in the mental health. Once I entered college, my love for community service quickly started to grow, and I thought it was the perfect time to put my plan into action.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I just graduated college with my B.S. in Psychology in the month of May, and in August I finally secured a full -time job position! But, finding a job after college was not easy. In the psychology field, you either need a ton of experience to be successful, or a masters degree. I had some experience from internships, but not too much. I was finding jobs and getting a lot of interviews, but the location either was too far, or the job was not offering me the amount of money I wanted. I didn’t want to settle. But, in August God blessed me and now I have found a job that is only 15 minutes away from me, and I am extremely happy with the pay. My job also allows me to use what I am learning at work and to be able to pour that into my non-profit organization. In the summer of 2023, I plan on starting my masters program so that I can do more in the mental health and community outreach field. I also am working on starting another business.. stay tuned!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I was born and raised in the DMV. After I graduated college, I moved back home to Maryland. I live about thirty minutes outside of Washington, D.C. so I usually am in the city a lot when I am looking to do something fun and exciting. The first place I probably would go would be U Street. U street has amazing food, and a fun nightlife! It is always an amazing time when I’m there. Also, during the day in D.C. there are a lot of fun things to do. My favorite thing to do during the summer is go to the museums around the city, and at night ride the scooters! But, sometimes the city life can be a lot and I need a break. I love going to different bookstores around Maryland and finding interesting books to keep me occupied. Lastly, food is the way to my heart! I love trying new restaurants with my friends and experiencing different types of food. As of right now, my top three places are Halfsmoke, The Real Milk and Honey, and Jaspers. The food is amazing and the vibe is immaculate. The DMV is an AMAZING place to go if you’re looking for new, interesting food spots.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My grandmother definitely had a lot to do with why I am here today. My grandmother was an extremely loving woman and she always went out of her way to care for people and help people. My grandmother would buy children Christmas gifts every year when their families could not afford to. She always wanted to help and see people happy and that is what I try to do with my organization. I get to carry out her legacy every time I make a difference in the lives of other people. I also couldn’t have done this without Zion, and Beauty, and my two line sisters Kayla and Bralyn. These 4 women were my first executive board members and really helped me bring my vision to life!! I couldn’t have done it without them. Love y’all!!!
