We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaylan Alex and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kaylan, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
My end goal is to be able to inspire and motivate. Being in the luxury space of content creating, I would like for others to understand that luxury is attainable with proper planning. I’ve interacted with many individuals who have never made a “luxury” purchase or went on a luxury trip. Often times they’ve expressed their fear of price, not being taken seriously, or just potential buyers remorse. Of course that looks different for each individual, but in all it’s accessible. I believe these experiences are important because they can be used to foster a new mindset. It’s like the saying goes “when you look good, you feel good.” Usually once a person receives an item, or experience, that they’ve wanted for a while, it makes them want more. The “more” doesn’t have to mean more material things, but instead improved mental well being, healthier diet habits or simply diversified income. To me, these experiences of attaining something that originally seemed impossible is what makes the difference in shifting future generational opportunities.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a fashion, lifestyle, and beauty content creator. I’ve always enjoyed the thrill of shopping, comparing purchases, looking for hard to find pieces and fashion in general. I began sharing my experiences, purchases and knowledge on social media and it grew organically. I’m most proud about the growing community I have thus far. They’re people who enjoy my content and share similar interests.
It’s certainly not always easy. Receiving negative messages and creative burn out can be discouraging. I’ve learned not to internalize things that are said or thought of about me. I’ve also learned to slow down and create naturally versus creating just to have something posted.
I would like for the world to know that following your passion can be frightening but rewarding. Don’t be afraid to divert when you feel your passion is shifting.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, it wouldn’t be a trip with me without doing a little shopping! I would definitely make an appointment at a few boutiques for a private shopping experience at the Galleria. Two of my favorite places for lunch are Mariposa in Neiman Marcus and Toulousse in the River Oaks shopping district. I love the convenience, intimate setting and light foods at Mariposa. I enjoy the atmosphere, exquisite foods and drinks at Toulousse. For dinner, I would suggest Gastby’s. I love steak and it’s my favorite steakhouse.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my parents. They sacrificed to better our family financially, physically and even mentally. Because of their commitment to giving me a head start, I am able to pursue my passion.
