We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaylon Woodson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kaylon, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking a risk in my opinion is a huge role in part of opening and running a business! I take a risk everyday and put in the work in hopes I continue to grow my business.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My name is Kaylon Woodson. In 2018 I opened my first location in Oakridge Texas. A little salon and boutique, with a loan my husband and I took out against some cows that we had gotten as a wedding gift. From there in 2019 my salon was completely full with booth renters and commission stylist that I expanded to add more chairs and that filled quickly too. In 2019 I opened a Salon and boutique in downtown Montgomery. I had both locations for 3 years until I got pregnant I decided I wanted to go down to one location and be close to where my little girl would be in daycare at. I believe I have gotten where I am at today with my ethic. I have always worked very hard for what I want and if I set my mind to it I am going to get it done!
If I have learned anything while being in business, it is that being greedy will not get you further. Cheer for everyone, clap for everyone! There is plenty of room for everyone to succeed!
If I could tell the world anything about my story, it would be…. With god, a good family, a good work ethic and a good team anything is possible!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If you were visiting the little town of Montgomery Tx, I would probably take you to breakfast at the Old Montgomery Steakhouse, we could go shopping at Shades :)) Ruthie Grace, Mw Beauty bar, do lunch at the Cozy Grape or Krawfish Kai in downtown, maybe go to Margaritaville one day and hangout by the lake! Downtown Navasota is fun and has a super cool roof top bar called Rail and Rye. There are so many cool things to do in small Towns!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would have to give a shoutout to my husband! When we hardly had any money, he took a chance on me opening my first location and has never questioned any ideas I have thrown his way! Anytime I want to do something to excel in my career / store front, my husband is always the first to say “let’s go for it”. His saying is “Scared money don’t make money”. I would definitely give my shoutout to him, he’s the backbone!
