Meet Keenia Simmons | Owner and Founder of Raeskin Essentials

We had the good fortune of connecting with Keenia Simmons and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keenia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
It was odd because I never saw myself as an entrepreneur. I tried to work my way up as far as I could in my industry and when the time came,..I realized I didn’t want my bosses job. Initially, I was just trying to improve the condition of my skin and I began making things for family and close friends. Two years later I started and LLC and here I am today.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am most excited and proud of the fact that I took the time to educate myself on natural skincare formulation prior to launching my brand. There is so much power in knowledge. Getting to where I am today took time and patience. It’s funny how know one person has the same story when it comes to success in entrepreneurship. I joined wonderful organizations that helped me along the way as well as having knowledge from my career field in marketing and advertising.

Was it easy? In some ways yes. I had to get out of my own way to allow things to happen. Bringing that previous knowledge helped me grow faster. I’ve learned that all business isn’t good business. I’ve come across so many people who scammed me my first year. I think year one was about making mistakes and learning from them.

I want the world to know Raeskin Essentials is here to stay. Every product and ingredient was carefully thought out and made to help your skin thrive. Many over the counter brands are not catering to skin of color. All of our products are crafted with melanin in mind.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
See this is a hard question for me because I am such a homebody lol. We would probable go out the first 2-3 days and the rest of the time chill at my house, watch movies and catch up. If I had to choose places to go we would definitely fine dine at Pappas and do some wine at the tasting room. Just to have some instagramable moments, I would visit XOXO diner.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my husband and my son. They are my foundation that keeps me in place and motivated to keep doing better.
