We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelli Worley-Hendren and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelli, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work life balance is a concept I think about constantly. My thoughts on what it means has changed over the years. I started my business while I was pregnant with my first child. Since then (2005), I have had 5 children, went through cancer treatments with my first husband and his passing, re-married, added 3 step-children, and moved states. I have always made my family a priority, which has slowed the growth of the my business. But at the same time, my business has allowed me to support my family as a single parent and when my first husband was unemployed. And then I’ve been able to take a step back when my need to contribute has been less. Now my business is thriving and I am very pleased with the level of hours I put into it. I’ve always felt blessed that I had my own business and could help support my family. I admit that at times it has caused me a lot of stress because I want to be in two places at one time. I love my work and wish I could spend 40 hours in my business. I love my family and wish I could be with them 24/7. I have often said, I wish I could clone myself. Overall, the pros have far-outweighed the cons, though.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business, Nutrition Solutions, is the only group of dietitians in Southeast Texas. We serve all populations and all ages in supporting them on their health journeys. We are unique because we provide personalized nutrition counseling. Anyone can find a diet online or from an influencer…but to get one-on-one advice from a professional is priceless. We are compassionate and non-judgmental as we guide our clients to better health. We are unique because we meet our clients where they are–there are no cookie-cutter plans. I have encountered many challenges along the way mostly through my personal life. Growing a business while growing a family is no joke! I have never given up and have persisted despite changes and challenges in my personal life. Keys to my success have been consistency, dedication, adaptability, and good customer service. Without those skills, I may have failed. My business growth is more like the the tortoise than the hare, which for me, has served me well.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting for a week, I would take her to Gator Country, local parks, Searim State Park, and my favorite bakery (Rao’s.) I love to cook, so we would cook at home and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of eating at home and enjoying home-cooked foods.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I couldn’t have succeeded in my business with the support of my family. My first husband supported me 100% in starting my business. My children have cheered me on. And my current husband loves to brainstorm and problem solve with me so I can continue to grow my business and succeed.
