We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelly Broesche and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelly, what do you attribute your success to?
Wow! What a great question! I really believe that the secret to my success is that my business plan is to bring joy. This concept guides every single decision, every interaction, literally everything I do. I wake up every morning so excited to see how I’m going to bring joy to people that day! I know it sounds so corny, but it’s my secret sauce.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When I started KB Design HTX, I really thought it was a nice little hobby. I started welding the Eterna bracelet because I thought it was a fun idea and frankly just because I thought it sounded fun to have a bracelet welded to my wrist with no clasp! That’s all still true, but somehow the concept has become something more than just a bracelet: moms and daughters, sisters, best friends, couples- all come to see me for a permanent reminder of their special relationship, to celebrate a special time in their lives, or when setting a goal for themselves. The Eterna bracelet has become something so special to so many!
I have worked really hard for what I’ve accomplished. I am KB Design HTX and it is me: the nature of my business is very up-close and personal, so I am my brand. I didn’t take any business classes in college, so I’ve learned everything on my own. I’ve made mistakes along the way, but I don’t dwell on them- I just learn my lesson and keep on going! Since my business plan is to bring joy, it keeps me focused on staying positive!
I would like people to know that it’s never too late to reinvent yourself! If you believe in something, put in the hard work and make it happen!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Such a fun question- I just love Houston, so I love to show off our city! We would begin our days with a walk or run at Memorial Park- I just love this true gem in Houston!! The Eastern Glades is such a beautiful place to begin our day.
Of course I would have to get her into my studio to weld an Eterna Bracelet- it’s the ultimate friendship bracelet!
I love our multicultural city, so we’d definitely have to hit all the different flavors Houston has to offer! Restaurants that are top of my list: Georgia James, Mai’s for Vietnamese, Truth BBQ, Ninfa’s on Navigation, my favorite dumplings at Dumpling King. We have so many great farmer’s markets around the city, so I would definitely want to hit several… bonus points if Semilla Baking Company is there! Anabel’s
Oatmeal Cake is my absolute fave!!
We’d have to spend a day at the Menil Collection, as well as the Museum of Fine Arts and the Contemporary Arts Museum. I love the sculpture garden at the Glassell School, where I took classes and learned my craft. Herman Park and the Houston Zoo are not-to-be-missed as well.
If it’s during baseball season, of course we’d have to hit an Astros game!! I just love live music, so hopefully Bob Schneider or Joe Ely would be playing at McGonigel’s Mucky Duck.
We have a place in Brenham, just an easy drive an hour away from Houston. A day in the hill country fresh air is invigorating and there’s so much to do! First stop would be at the BEST burger joint in Texas: The Dairy Bar in Brenham! We’d spend the day golfing and fishing before heading to Round Top for some antiquing and finish our day with a great meal and my favorite pie at Royer’s Round Top Cafe.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe every bit of my success to the love, support, and encouragement of my husband Kirt. He has never doubted me- three years ago when I decided I wanted to sell earrings at the Elder Street Christmas Market at our church, Ecclesia, Kirt was there to build a sign for me, lug all my supplies to and from, never complaining. He is there for me at every pop up, for setting up and tearing down. When he married me I was a teacher, so he definitely did not sign up for this crazy lifestyle! I couldn’t do any of it without him!
