We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelsey Holloway and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelsey, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After, receiving the autism diagnosis for my daughter I knew I needed to do something to create more time to teach and create a unique schedule with my daughter. I decided since I was already great at braiding and had over 12 plus years of experience in that field that would be the best avenue for me.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I specialize in braid and loc styles for all individuals at affordable prices and offer classes for both beginners and advanced individuals or groups. Starting a business is never easy. As, I said earlier receiving the diagnosis for my daughters autism started me on my journey. Nothing about the process was and still isn’t easy but I’m still determined to complete and get the job done. Hard lessons I’ve learned overtime is no one is perfect, give yourself grace , room to breathe and have communication. I’d love for the world to know that as a business owner I’ve made several mistakes but as the Owner of STYLEDBYKELS LLC I am determined to continue styling , making people feel great, and complete the mission I set out to achieve.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love the diversity Houston has to offer. I’d definitely take a friend downtown to Toro Toro for food and drinks. I’d also love for them to experience a few museums and my favorite Discovery Green.
